I am an ex-Scientologist. (LONG read)

I see this question a lot on the net. Always wondered about the fascination with how much money I have given my church. Seems like it's really no one's business. Well no one's besides the IRS that is:)

Needless to say I don't share financial information with people on the net.

I will say this however. I achieved all I ever thought was possible to achieve on the very first class I took. That cost fifty bucks I think. It was back in the seventies. The money was the easy part by the way. The time put in and the work I had to do to get what I got was far harder than the actual money.

But considering what monks do in the far east to achieve spiritual enlightenment I guess it really wasn't much work at all.

Everything since that first class has been a bonus. Your mileage may vary however.

Yet you advertise your gullibility by admitting belonging to a cult?

Don't know. Can't say I know what Nirvana is either subjectively or objectively.

Now being completely single-minded is another subject entirely - discovering girls, jiu-jitsu, and several other hobbies have had me in single-minded mode. But I don' think this is what you mean or what I mean.

discovering girls means your a teenager, spiritual serenity for a teenager is jerking off......FAIL!!

While its important to respect peoples beliefs.

These people are crooks.

They exploit people.

They follow and harass their critics. They are overly defensive because they have much to hide. Take the guy in this thread coming across as the reasonable face of scientology. He skirts questions 'in my experience..','I would not know about that'. Sure if this thread was full of your ilk it would be a different tune.

Noone is that naive unless they are brainwashed.

At its heart. This movement was founded by a crook.

Why does the 'church' of scientology discriminate and harass those who leave?

Why are its critics followed and put under surveillance?

Why do people pay for what in other religions is FREE?

Its a scam. A monumental scam. If you get something out of it thats called PLACEBO AFFECT.

Good for you but here is the heads up. There are no Thetons, there is no Xenu. Hubbard was a science fiction writer and scam artist.

Empirically there is no more evidence for scientology than other religions and I'm sure there are scientologists who are at heart good people.

Have you ever paid for a bible. You can get them free and its all christians need. I am not religious just pointing out a comparison. Weak people in search of 'spirituality' will write blank cheques and the church of scientology is only to happy to cash them.

If these people were the good, honest people they say they would not charge like they do. Faith is more valuable more than money.

Just a heads up, much like many of us sometimes what we think we know isn't always true. For example you think I charge for my help but I don't. I have had a few people insist on giving me money though for my services but I usually don't accept it.

Staff at churches do need to be paid so they can pay their bills etc. Lights, buildings, chairs all cost money. Just the economic world we live in.

So if I don't charge for my help does that make me "good, honest people" or does that just annoy my wife?...:)

Now that there's a reasonable sounding scientologist brandishing smilies in this thread, it really doesn't seem so bad after all. Where do I sign up?

I know you're kidding... But in case you ever decide to "sign up" (even as a joke), make sure you don't give them your real address. Unless of course you'd like to receive an entire forest's worth of junk mail for life.

Did you recognize that guy? He played the retarded kid in that movie "Pumpkin".

This is pretty harsh, sir.

It's also sadly mostly accurate. There are no doubt good people in the CoS, but LRH and the structure he set up to make billions are fundamentally corrupt and a scam. Anyone studying the history of LRH and his church-named money- and power-collecting invention could really not come to any other conclusion.

It is not a fascination, it is an objective view as to whether or not they are trying to make money off you. If these teachings are so highly valued, why not enlighten the world for free?

But you gave the exact evasive answer that I was expecting.

Many of you have asked about the money "donations" scheme.

This video gives a perfect depiction of how it works.

The woman who runs the Ex-Scientologist Message Board (Emma), just had her house raided by Police in Australia. The cult was trying to get her charged with bullshit. It didn't work. She wasn't charged.

They FUCKED up.

lol retarded cult is retarded.

Great thread, just read it for the first time.
