Hunt, Arlovski, Werdum, Overeem, JDS, Ngannou

Past prime, past prime, good win, off roids, past prime, overhyped.

GSP is not impressed.

Lmao jesus, the hate is real. He looked horrible? He couldn't have been any more dominant loool

The graphic beating that Stipe put on Hunt in every aspect of the sport still holds the record for most strikes landed in UFC history against all weight classes. It's literally the worst beating in UFC history.

Fedor vs Mir what's your breakdown?

I don’t get how people are still saying Stipe doesn’t look impressive on tape.

He’s been showcasing dominant and well rounded skills since like the Nelson fight. There’s a reason plenty of people predicted his path to victory against Ngannou. He’s an incredibly well rounded fighter.

Lmao it's a trash fight in 2018.

Fedor has an edge standing but I think mir would probably get the better of him on the ground and in the clinch. It's 2018 so it's unlikely, but I'll say Fedor by (T)KO. Or mir by decision. It's unlikely that Mir gets the sub but I wouldn't be shocked about it if he did.

The HW tourney is a cool idea and a nice novelty, but it's so far removed from the top of the HW division that it's hard to take super seriously

I hope Fedor wins

Doing a suicide pact with a mate over it

Because on film, Stipe is underwhelming. Nothing he does is particularly eyecatching or impressive. He did the bare minimum against Francis, who was immobilized by his stamina from about 3 minutes into the fight. Just rode on him and kept enough rabbit punches going to prevent a standup. Can you imagine the sort of punishment Cain or Fedor would unload in that sort of scenario?

It's why Cain will probably be the betting favourite going into a Miocic fight despite the layoff. Stipe is the Tim Sylvia of this era. He keeps beating everyone, but he can't beat the eye test.
THANK YOU I’ve been trying to tell these people the same thing.

Ngannou fight should have been stopped in that round that he threw zero punches.

The one on the right makes me sad. Lost my big old blue Weim right after Thanksgiving.

Because his fight abilities lacked all time great potential. All he does is jab cross, and quick TDs. Where’s the lethal kicks, knees, elbows?. Can he rag doll fighters like Cormier can or trip people like Romero? NOPE. Where’s the BJJ? Absolutely 0. The Ngannou fight was a testament of how bad Stipe is fighting a slugger with 0 ground game and gas tank of Dada 5000. When he had Ngannou down, he had no sub attempts, no full mount to deliver punishing GnP, and against the fence, he stalled and kept looking at the clock. There were moments in the fight were these 2 kept staring each other in the stand up

Taking mount would have been a mistake. So would going for a sub. Every time Stipe tried to create space to strike, Ngannou was advancing to his feet. I'm not sure anyone else in the world can dominate Francis the way stipe did. Maybe Cain, maybe.

MMA is not all about being flashy, it’s about utilizing a skill set and game plan to win fights. His performance against Ngannou was a masterclass in neutralization and again showcased a well rounded skill set necessary to be a successful mixed martial artist, and something rarely seen at HW. I don’t know what you’re looking for when you watch MMA if you don’t think Stipe is a tremendous fighters, especially for his weight class.

Plus it’s a non-sense conversation that I have to advocate for how flash isn’t everything in a guy who murdered four dudes in the first round, at the upper levels of this division, going into this fight.

I always had Stipe as a favorite going into this fight because, again, he is the superior skills fighter, but his performance was still impressive. He bullied a muscle shark who legitimately made him look small in there and won almost every exchange and took every round (even the first round where Ngannou was “fresh”)

When you’re beating the absolute piss out of someone you’re not under any obligation to go for subs to impress some fans, and not doing so doesn’t make you any less of a great fighter.

Stipe is good, but lets be real. He lost to JDS and Struve, Overeem nearly stopped him, and he looked horrible against Ngannou--not able to finish, or even come close to finishing, a guy that was completely gassed after 1 round.

If he was the greatest HW ever than why was he an underdog, in his prime, against a guy with such little experience?
Because people thought he was going to get knocked out

In a row, all dominant victories, all (T)KOs except for the five round wipeout of Francis

Greatest streak in HW MMA history

Your GOAT, ladies and gentlemen.

Hunt (old), AA (old), Econoreem (old), JDS (old), Ngannou (DADA6000)

Outside of Francis, all old and in the twilight of their career. It isn't Stipe's fault but it's not like he beat them in their prime.

JDS has a better resume.

He has one of the best resumes in HW history.

Stipe is close behind him though.

Stipe had an out of shape Hunt and Werdum, glass jaw Reem and Arlovski, a green and clearly out of shape Francis, past prime JDS.

Like another poster has said, if Maldonado and SDR are in your top 10 wins you have a bit more to go.
No there’s an “out of shape Hunt” excuse. When is Hunt ever in shape?
