Who has an HSA?

It sounds awesome, you can deposit money tax free, it grows tax free, and you can withdraw it tax free provided is only used for medical expenses.

The only reason I don't have one is because you have to have a high deductible plan first.

That sucks balls.

I have a family and it seems like someone's always sick or hurt, so I've never wanted to go with a high deductible plan as I think it would cost me more over the course of the year.

Am I looking at it wrong?

Free money ? Tell me more...

Yes, you’ve got it wrong, your insurance costs are much higher and not coming back.

Right now, i have 33K in my HSA, and it’s all mine, i probably pay lower premiums even with the HSA factored in, you are living in a fear based reality.

The normal person is going to be pay a lot more in premiums than they get out of it. My deductible is $10k. I use insurance as what it's supposed to be for - protection from a catastrophic event. Too many people think they are getting value out of it on lower expenses, but they are placing a losing bet.

This is how I see it. Plus my company contributes and extra $2,000/yr to my hsa which is pretty awesome.

Id rather have a plan where I don't have to spend a fortune if something happens and then have to pull it from another account that I may or may not even need.

But I don't have kids and my wife and I pay $0 a month premium so there's that.

My Dept has an HSA. It’s a $4k deductible, 2k from me matched by 2k from the town. After
that mostly everything, except prescriptions, is 100% covered.

It’s one of the reasons I’m working 30 instead of retiring at 25 years. One of my wife’s infusions wipes out most of the 4K in one session. Then the rest of the year is covered.

I just got one. Not sure how it'll pan out, but seemed like a good way to drive my marginal taxes down along with my 401k, have tax free money for a rainy day, and if I don't use it then it's like a second retirement account when I turn 65.

I work for the city, so they deposit 500 every 6 months.

I'm relatively healthy at 40 so I'm going to let it build up
