How would Anthony Smith do as a fight commentator?

they already have their token black commentator in DC

WTF are you on about?

You know how you read some people's posts, and you are actually shocked that they aren't yellow? It is only a matter of time with some people on here.

IDK but I would like to see him replace Cruz.

I would like to see anyone replace Cruz.

Fuck Cruz.

Why do you hate Cruz out of interest?

I really like him as a commentator, I find him quite robotic but I like that he just breaks things down, never really noticed him to have a major bias but I could be wrong

I think Smith would be good to answer OP, I think there's a fair few fighters who would do a great job to be honest

I don't like his fighting style and I think he is the most overrated fighter in MMA who was at the right place at the right time. Somehow I still respect his career.

As a commentator I think he is terrible. He is constantly trying to correct the other guys and is cringy as fuck. He is a pretentious manlet with a huge small dick complex.

Dude shows zero emotion whatsoever. Hard to get hyped listening to that robotic little shit.

He’s extremely based. Very likeable guy and I can’t believe I’m saying that after he completely shit the bed against Jones.

I like the crew now. If it aint broke....
Smith is the man, but it is better when commentators have already cemented their legacy and entered the hall of fame.

Yeah the current commentary is quite fine as long as you watch the events in mute.
What I mean is, there seems to be a bunch of guys employed who are mediocre but not Tito level. I don’t see Smith as being an upgrade really.

Big fan of Smith on the desk. Articulate but a lot of personality. Would probably be really good with Rogan to be honest.

We'll have to agree to disagree on both of your points there

The commentators don't hype the fight for me in the slightest, I like them breaking down what technical moves and mistakes fighters are doing, what they need to do to escspe positions or lock in subs etc which is why I rate Dom. But as I said each to their own playa

He's very thoughtful with his words, which is a plus, but as far as being articulate he's on the same level as both DCs and Felder. I think Bisping is the best fighter/analyst. Smith would not be a step down nor a step up as far as quality, but it would be nice to get a fresh personality and fresh perspective in there. How would Smith do? Fine.

By today’s standards good. Dc is horrible. “ oh gee whiz. I’m so nervous for this fight. Golly I’m shaking”

and everyone is just great at everything 98% of the time

He's pretty decent as it is, but commentating requires analyses on - the - fly in addition to being well-spoken, which is a combination not too often displayed perfectly by the current commentating lineups.
Meh. He's a winner he'll do fine

Yup, this. Dom has brought some high level stuff many times where I was like damn I had no idea.
Most of the time they are just stating the obvious, sadly. Oooh he punched him in the face. Ooh stroong leg kick. Oooh submission attempt. Ohhh he is rocked. Like dude, who is this for? Radio broadcasting for listeners? The only thing it could be useful for. They sometimes commentate for the sake of commentating and I feel like they feel awkward in silence. I would rather have more silence and more meaningful commentary. I get describing obvious submission to people who don't understand the ground but don't repeat obvious stuff over and over again. I would rather hear they talk about fighters trainings, background info, trivia etc. If they really have to say something.

Just finished watching his post fight interview and he said that doing live commentary would be ten times harder than his work at desk but I think he would be much better than DC or Cruz.
How do you think he would do?
I bet he could be good if he worked at it. He's frank and well spoken and has a ton of knowledge and pedigree. I think he said it was harder because of the prep necessary. Seems like it'd be more like preparing for a test, where you know what might come up, and can memorize a bunch of shit, but you're not sure how much of it you'll need. Doing the desk work is a bit more like doing a presentation I'd guess. You know what's expected, can prepare exactly what you want to say, however briefly, as opposed to six consecutive hours of improvising, where you just have to trust that your due diligence will keep you with proverbial "bullets in the gun."
