How would an accurate lie detector change society?

<{nope}>Sicilians already are. Someone didn't watch the Hopper/Walken scene

Let's say someone invented a cheap, readily available, 100 percent accurate lie detector. Would it be good or bad for society?

What would be the drawbacks?
band aid fix. For simple reason : psychos does believe that stuff they are telling is truth and real, therefore you might place device in trash bean.

Women would be using that on your ass 25/8. Horrible invention.

Why not? I might fool polygraph if questions are asked in offensive manner or offensive manner used before test, while if friendly discussion is used it is different game.
I had lied about some questions and passed and had failed in some when was relaxed.

It would be kind of helpful in a way I suppose. It depends on the lie, a big lie or a simple white lie to smooth things over. Nightly news might have a segment - is such and such person telling the truth, or not. There are a good many politicians and journalists too that would run into trouble with that segment I'm afraid.

Often times it seems pretty obvious when someone is lying though. At least it seems that way to me. Many for one reason or another want to go along with the lie, either for political/ group support or simply to make money I'm afraid. From books I've read over the years i get the opinion that a portion of what is commonly believed in society is wrong, and many know it to be wrong, or parcially wrong. It is easier to go along with the lie though. Having a policy of truth can bring trouble sometimes for ones career.

It would be like the movie minority report and judge dredd combined. Since everyone commits crime to some degree we would all be executed or in prison.

I think it would have positives and negatives.

Detective work and police interrogations will be completely solved. Society will be so expecting of this cheap device to be used on Politicians and public figures running for office that corruption, nepotism, misuse of funds will all be solved. Job interviewing will be solved. A million things would be solved,

On the negative side People would feel on edge all the time, anxiety and depression would climb to levels never seen before and social interactions would feel very pressured. Life wont be as happy for a lot of people anymore.

I think you're spot on with depression. Our definition of a good person would be shattered once it becomes obvious how much everybody lies. It could take decades for humanity to adjust to our new expectations for being a good person.

I'LL go out on a limb and say society would be changed in a fundamental , drastic and probably negative way if you did away with all deception 100% . Like you touched on the white lies do a lot more to smooth things over and to make our relationships tolerable then we think. Every ones thoughts go ( even if only for a short time) to places that are better kept to themselves. Would you really want to know every time your wife wondered how her life would've been different marrying her college boyfriend instead of you or your parents loved your little brother more so than you? White lies or omissions are a hugely important social lubricant of sorts imo.

Better to shatter the illusion, some of us would prefer to be seriously damaged by the truth than to carry on living under falsehood.

I thought about this generation and the next, which would have a universe breaking change in how society works. But what about future generations or people born and raised in this new way of life? I think it is difficult to predict… however I would think people will get used to this new world. Humans are the sneakiest creature, we adapt and adapt and adapt… not only to environment changes but also to shit like this.

I think the new world would have two groups of people. People that have adjusted and normalize the telling of truth all the time or not giving an answer or statement at all. Another group would just self enforce in never using the device and having more “natural interactions and living” perhaps this group would only advocate for usage of the device under legal systems and law enforcement. Everything else, not needed. I dont know which group would be more prevalent.

Politicians lie all the time and we know they are lying, and they know we know they are lying, they are trained to lie, they are skilled liars.

They promise all kinds of nice things and never follow through once they take office, for ultimately they have masters, and by following the orders of their masters they bring untold suffering to countless others, and they still hold the position.

You would think a 100% accurate lie detector would really fuck up a politician's day, but they would still try and convince you that lying is a necessary thing to do to protect us, and the masses would agree, stand by and do nothing, just like today.

Surprised they still use them today they were basically silly ideas to begin with in a very stone aged era bf technology really took off , it was modern witch hunting really decades ago .

If you pass or fail it means little unless your using it as evidence to clear yourself of a crime you still committed just to say hey look I’m innocent or vice versa . Lol

I wonder how many innocent guys got dumped on the Steve Wilco’s show bc he used that to determine if anyone was cheating and if I remember correctly a vast majority of them got played into taking it that were found to be telling the truth .Lol

In the state legislature, there's an unnamed powerful lawmaker caught accepting maybe $30k in paper bag and seems like the feds and state are playing hot potato like we'll investigate if asked and no one's asked, blah blah. It could help weed out government corruption.

People would feminize even more and begin talking in code, lots of "But I didn't say that exactly, what I meant was....you interpreted it wrong" we have enough of that shit as it is.

Politicians would be insta-fucked.
How so? They already are an embarrassment who long ago learned how to reply to questions instead of directly answering them lol.

Well, hindsight is 20/20, I dont think it would change much of anything.

If I have learned anything about people in the last 10 years, with both gender politics and the Covid jab as receipts, it is that they will conform to narratives no matter obviously un-true they are.

It's not a lack of intelligence or information, it's a lack of courage. Being a coward is a valid short term strategy, but long term it has dire consequences.

I have fantasized about this quite a lot. For some reason I have this fascination with lie detectors and their philosophical implications.

The truth is you can convince yourself anything is true, so how then is a lie detector a good measure of anything. You are trained in how to cheat it in some sections of the military. and it works.
