How to wash BJJ Gi?

So, as an outsider looking into your heated debate I can draw some conclusions. My previous experience reading the forums tells me that the person behind username Rod1 is always keen to come up with some outlandish concepts and argue to death protecting his collapsing arguments that are refuted by more grounded contributors. It seems that he likes to argue just for the sake of it. And while some of his points are usually true... Man, it would be unwise to take everything he screams out for granted.
And also a lol for the line: 'Me and my judo teammates are guided by the smell' .
You, sir, just landed a roflcopter and that leaves me no choice but to post one:

Excellent trolling

F12 where peer reviewed studies are outlandish concepts

I'll read your study in full tomorrow. If there is any compelling evidence that it's better not to wash a gi for a week than to wash it after use, then I'll forgive you for all of the other silly things you said.

Also dont wash after every workout, just remember to dry it after you are done.

Thats how you get Golden Staph and then give it to everyone that rolls with you. Always wash your Gi after every use

Not really, there is simply no correlation between not washing for a week and increase in infections.

The advantages are longer gi life and saving laundry work/costs, of course if you have a good washing machine and dont worry about the energy bill and can buy a dogi whenever you want, then cool. But for us that not only earn in pesos not in dollars and who have to ask favors to get our gis sent from America we simply cant afford to treat our dogis like trash.

And at least i have time to wash, a competitive athlete who is also a full time student and lives in a dorm without washing machine, well he really doesnt has the time. So there is no such thing as "unecessary" leaving a dogi "dirty".

No, you get golden staph from rolling with sick people and not showering after, or rolling on dirty mats or leaving your dogi in a bag or a locker for a day.

SO should i do a vinegar wash on my new blue gi or not? Im getting it in the mil tomorrow and wanna go ahead and get the color set in

No, vinegar doesnt works, if you want to fix the color use a product used to do so. Vinegar is used to fix dyes in the dying process in certain fabrics but not cotton.

If you dont want to stain other clothes then rinse 2 to 3 times. I think the fixer is called retayne, but i wouldnt recommend adding anything to a gi.

I didn't even read this thread. I bet it's full of people who want to buy me a drying machine because they are very concerned about making sure that I only train with a sparkly clean gi. Thanks, everyone.

Here is another epidemiologic study of skin disease in Judo.

Talks bout the relative irrelevance of fomites (in this case mats) and that skin to skin contact is the most important factor as seen by how the disease was prevalent in skin to skin contact zones in judo which are the hands and forearms and the head and neck.

why would you think 30 degrees is hot? ever walk outside when it's 30 degrees out?

You'd have to wash with seawater if that was in F:icon_chee otherwise it'd freeze.

just follow the instructions that came with your gi.... I'm sure a lot of shoyoroll owners have used vinegar to supposedly set the color..

all i want to know is if its safe for me to dry my gi or even just my gi pants in the dryer :[

I wouldn't do it. I'd just hang it to dry so that it doesn't shrink.

If it isn't dry enough, use the "fluff" or "air" feature on your dryer (it uses cold air instead of hot) for a few minutes to finish it off.

Yeah im pretty sure its Celsius, is that to hot or?

30 degrees celcius is hot.

Average room temperature is 20-21 degrees celcius. A hot summer's day is in the 30s.

Water freezes at 0 celcius and boils at 100, so 30 would be one third of the way to boiling. I'd say that's pretty hot.

Agreed. I hate that stiff crunchy feel the gi has once its been washed and hung to dry. I throw mine in there for about 5 mins with a dryer sheet. Comes out soft

I thought fabric softener sheets only worked with heat! Good to know! I might give that a shot tonight!

If it doesnt work, why do so many sites suggest it? And do you do this BEFORE using it for the first time or after the 1st use?
