Never thought this will happen to me but for the last few weeks this guy has been telling everyone and texting me that he is going to kick my ass and destroy me and he isn't afraid of the police.

Backstory is basically that the guy used to be an acquaintance, he cheated with the girl of a good friend of mine, he told me (he is also friends with the guy) and I told my friend since I don't think that kind of shit is okay to do. Ever since he's been threatening me.

I already notified the police and haven't responded to his threats besides laughing at them but if he does attack me I will be forced to defend myself. What are the things you should never do in a street fight you do in the ring? I haven't fought outside the ring since I was 16 which is almost a decade ago

My best weapon is my overhand left and being a southpaw I'm pretty sure I can land it clean on the chin of someone who has limited training experience since being left-handed has always given me an advantage against someone not used to fighting southpaws. I do not want to damage my hand over some petty fight but I'm not comfortable with palm strikes either. Tips on how to completely avoid the fight are welcome too.

to avoid the fight... do you have any mutual acquaintances you could get to talk to him? Otherwise, you could get together with a friend and go talk to him before he comes to you. Not an easy thing to do, but it allows you to choose the time and place (nothing worse than getting jumped after an hour at the gym and a large meal). You could explain your point of view without backing down and try to clear the air and if things go south, your buddy is there.

Is boxing your background? That should work on the street - just make sure there is nothing behind you to trip you etc.

If it does go down, I'd keep things simple - chose the two or three techniques you are most comfortable using and stick with them. Remember to move your feet and control the distance - that's what street fighting types often don't know how to do at all.

Good luck, my man!

As Vergilius said if you know where you can find him go and kick his ass there don't wait him
If you get into a physical fight with him don't try to take him down or anything because he might have a friend who you didn't see and probably attack you from behind. Just stick to normal boxing attack him with a 3-2 if he tries to go backward grab his shirt and knee him in the stomach , muay thai clinch him and start kneeing him in the face and stomach until he is out
If he attacks you just block them the same way you block hooks but at the same time let your elbow cover your mouth that would protect your whole face and close the distance as soon as possible and then you can grab him and knee him to death.

I'm southpaw too but the overhand should be used in my opinion as a follow strike. Strike him first with the 3 or hook let your hand as loose as possible and hit it with no telegraph amd clinch your fist before landing that will most likely knock him out and if he doesn't follow up with a cross or whatever and grab him but watch out for your balls that the only thing he can do to win

What's the hold up? Sounds like he's all talk if it's taking him this long to engage.

I agree with RW. Ignore the guy. Block his number and move on with your life. If you think he's actually crazy, see what king of legal weapon you can carry without a permit. Maybe a pocket knife. Even the smallest of weapons make a colossal difference, there is a reason they're called "force equalizers."

You want him to kill someone with a knife? Why risk the jail time and sorrow, if the guy is only talking about fighting?

TS, how crazy is this dude? What's his story?

Anyway, street fights are all about mindsets. That is why it's not ideal to get jumped if you are not already in that mindset. Most people freeze up when caught off guard. Obviously being able to fight is good, but if you are not prepared to let go, it wont help. Use the feeling you have when you are fighting someone dangerous in the gym or in a match, someone who can legit hurt you. Fighting on the streets is not a sparring match, it's serious. If you are prepared to buckle down and fight, you'll do okay. It's him or you, so use your best punches and finish it asap.

Broken hands, legal troubles, retaliation, all these things are shitty. However, if you have someone standing infront of you who wants to hurt you, you can't think like this. In the moment, you have to be willing to take him on and let the chips fall where they may. Just think of him as a wild animal that is about to pounce.

Hope it doesn't come to that though, and that he is either all talk or that the police scared him off! Talk to your friends about it as well! Good luck, peace and stay safe! :)

street fighting is stupid and serves no point.

rule 1 is there are no rules. (besides that one)

you have no assurance nor guarantee that he isnt going to blindside you with or without a weapon, bring friends, or cheat (cheap shot you in your eyes groin or whatever the fuck) at any and all possible times

so dont fight. this isnt a movie. take steps to protect yourself by any and all means if it comes to it, but avoid the doof if you can.

otherwise, be prepared to put him down however you have to. thats it, dont listen to guys who think this is just a high school knuckle up, or a never back down flick, a lot of people have not seen what can happen when it gets UGLY. people are crazy out there, and if youve been around enough shit you should know when to avoid it and how to deal with it the right way

No, I want him to not be killed or permanently injured. If someone is going to attack him, the rules of polite society are out the window and only the law and survival matter.

You're making a common mistake, imagining street fights as something out of a Jackie Chan movie. If you get into a "street fight", you're a goddam idiot. If you're in a survival situation, you need every possible option.

You did the right thing in going to the police initially, no one should have to put up with threats like that.

If you do meet up with him, make sure it is in a public place with plenty of witnesses, and arrive before him. Looking up the law and guidance for what is considered self defense in your country may be useful. You need to make sure that you are not provoking him, threatening him, and that if anything you only act in self defense, though that does not usually mean you need to wait until he touches you, if you feel that he is going to attack you.

If he does attack you, or you think he is going to, why the overhand? That could connect with his forehead, leaving you with an injury, and from boxing your jabs would already feel heavy enough to him.

Okay buddy. I've been in enough tough spots to know how real life differs from the movies. You sounds like you are the one living in fantasy land if you think that stabbing someone who is looking for a scuffle is a good idea. If you use a knife you better be ready to kill someone and go to jail for a long time. Unless your life is immediate danger, that is not a good idea.

Obviously street fights are not pretty, people get permantly hurt even from fighting, and that is why you have to end it. You are right in that you have to neutralize the threat asap, but using a knife on someone who is looking for a fist fight is indeed stupid.

kick him in the balls.

if you know how to kick then kick. most untrained people don't know how to throw punches, let alone kicks. if you know how to kick then have a kicking battle with him. 1 good kick even when checked should send him crying.

But sounds like you know how to box. Just outbox him. But try not to fight in the pocket for he will most likely take u down.

What's the other guy know how to do? Is he stronger, more athletic, bigger? If you already know your opponent, why use an untailored strategy?

How do you know the other guy isn't going to bring a weapon or friends to jump him? The safest bet would be to carry some sort of legal self defense weapon (pepper spray lol) and incapacitate the guy quickly. Maybe a tazer haha. Then if/when it goes to court, have a good lawyer ready and lie your ass off if you have to. There are no rules to life, really.

Why risk a street fight, even if TS is trained? Like you said...this isn't some movie.

-motorcycle armor
-friends
-"toys"

And prep with this, since it will most likely end up similar to this

You're right, we don't know. That's why I asked how crazy the guy is and what his story is. That's good info to have. I just think that it's a little bit extreme gearing him up to knife someone. Yes, dangerous people are around, but it's very much exaggerated by shows and horror stories. No sane person is coming to kill you. Depends on the person and area obviously and I'm not saying it's not dangerous, but it's good to have perspective.

Pebber spray and especially a tazer sounds good. Don't know if you can carry a tazer around. Either way it's always smart not to get involved in a street fight as you said.

I think you're making my point. It sounds to me like the OPs guy is just being a retard acting tough over the phone, but if he is more than that and actually tracks down the OP, he instantly becomes a lunatic in my book. OP already called the police on this guy. Having a small knife is the right call. If this guy is crazy enough to come after the OP, he is going to either have friends or a weapon himself.

I mean if we were talking about 4th grade, sure just punch the guy. One adult hunting down another adult? That's psychotic.

Having a big knife is a better call. Why a small one? You obviously don't remember the scene in Crocodile Dundee where the mugger pulled out a knife and CD said "That's not a knife. This is a knife...".

Small to not have to have a permit (in some states). If you're going to have a concealed carry permit you might as well carry a pistol rather than a katana. :)

If you know how to box and he doesn't it will be like taking candy from a baby.
Unless he's a grappler and you don't know how to grapple. Don't get sucker punched, as soon as you see him expect that he is going to hit you. Smartest thing might be calmly almost bored, walk up and punch him in the face and don't stop punching until he quits. And says uncle. If he says you sucker punched him after. You can say "you told everyone we were going to fight, I didn't think you where lying"
