well the school I was going to has dropped BJJ so I'm changing and it was between a Renzo Gracie affiliate, ATT and (at the time) Marcelo's affiliate which is now his own school. My decision was made the minute I heard he moved down here and was going to be teaching.

my point was that almost all the top players are at 6' it's nice to find someone closer to my body frame.

Alot of the legends of jiujitsu are pretty short.

Rickson,Rolls,Liborio are all 5'9 i think.

Other great top tier grapplers that are short are:

Saulo, Margarida, Bj Penn(all three of them are 5'9 aswell), how tall is Sergio Penha? i dont think he is tall either.

Alot of the current top guys are pretty tall thou roger,jacare,xande.

this was my point, I know some of the older legends are closer to my height but none are local, I am just excited about the opportunity. Also for some ungodly reason all the major instructors down here are taller including my former instructor.

Im not sure why you guys think being short is much of a disadvantage. Some of the best BJJ players I have rolled with were 5'4-5'7

Marcelo is NOT 5'9". 5'6" - 5'7" like someone else said is more like it.
I've trained with him before, and met him a few more times. I am about 5'10" and he was clearly shorter than me by a few inches.

This is actually the most accurate #. I am 5'9", and he seemed two inches shorter standing next to me.

How is 1 inch under average short? Anything 5'8-6 feet is average in my opinion. (ps im not talking about 5'7 guys that claim 5'9 a true 5'9 is not short..not tall either just slightly under the exact average of about 5'10)

Just to repeat Marcelo is 5'7, I asked him in person.

Also, to repeat, 5'7 isn't short. I am 5'4 (er.. 5'3.5..), so FUCK ALL OF YOU!

Maybe you should ask him in cm for more accuracy. He looks 5'6 to me; 169 Centimeters about.

Me and my twin are 5'6 and he was maybe an inch taller. So yeah I think AnOddParadigm is correct.

He walks around really relaxed so its not like some wrestlers who look like they have a stick up their ass. That probably makes him appear 5'5 to some people

When I met him I was shocked at how similiar in size he was to us. I guess its just with a regular shirt and baggy shorts you cant see his monster thighs lol

Hey does anybody know the average height nowadays?
Ive read somewhere that its like 6feet here in europe, and 5"10 in us, but to me it seems that the average height is bigger. In my school theres like 3 over 6"6 guys and like 8 over 6"3... average seems to be like 6"1 atleast... oh and its an 8year high school, so the average age is 15... But I have to admit that its mainly the young people that are really tall, so maybe its this generation...

His weight usually fluctuates from 175 to 185 lbs.
