How often do you watch 'The Critical Drinker' reviews?

Used to watch him years back but quickly grew tired of his schtick. Any content creator that creates a gimmick as part of their persona eventually gets tiring, because people get bored with schticks.

He has a surprisingly deep knowledge of films and shows. I liked him before I even knew what he looked like when he was just a schtick. I trust his reviews more than chris stuckman who is neutered now im guessing by his sponsors or youtube.

Stuckmann is a twerp, he won’t even give bad reviews now.

No idea. Never noticed how many he had years ago. Can't recall the last time I saw one of his 'review' videos. A more accurate description to his content would be reaction video.

I guess i can bump this since a new cycle of media criticism started after the election.

His videos break down the plot, comment on the acting, the action setpieces, speculate about the message. They have all the aspects of a movie review.

His critiques are decent; especially his breakdowns of older movies. Also, when he does videos about a large topic, like "the hero's journey", he does it well.

However, other times, he is grasping to find something to complain about. For instance, when the Prey trailer dropped, he came down hard on it. But, when the movie itself came out, his criticism seemed forced. He seemed like he would lose his shtick if he admitted he liked it.

He seems like the godfather of cynical movie reviewers on youtube.

If you can rant for 12 minutes on the casting of a mermaid, you're living a good life.

This. And a few others in the same group feel like this. Many of there critics are accurate, but often, they are just nitpicking and they come off like they are whining.

Like a lot of Youtube reviewers I think really he's aiming at the lowest common denominator, selling a really really simplified idea of what makes good cinema so people can feel smart.

The Starwars sequels I think are a perfect example of that, JJ Abrams had been pushed as the blueprint for how to make a good blockbuster but we ultimately saw that no his hackish formula was not anything like the originals. Ironically I remember Stuckman hating Rogue One, I suspect because it highlighted Abrams faults, it spent time building character and atmosphere rather than throwing nostalgia and bad sitcom zingers at you at lightspeed.
