I sometimes wash it once a week (2-3 classes).

Are there any down sides to washing it too often? (ie. weakening the fabric??)

wash it after every practice. A real bjj gi won't weaken that much even if you wash it every day.

I have a lucky gi, seems to be quite strong.

thanks for he reply nefti

What nefti said, I wash my Gi after every practice. I have no want to get staph or ringworm or some other freaky germ because I was lazy about washing my Gi.

at most i wear one gi to 2 classes.. but other than that. i just have 2 diff gi's i alternate between

i REALLY HATE people who do that. I think it is really rude to not wash the gi after every practice. A decent BJJ gi will last you at least a year. you figure if you train 3 times a week, you average about 159 times a year, an average gi cost lets say $125, you roughly spend $0.79 cents for the gi every time you train.

that is well worth it. if you hang dry and not wash in dryer, EVEN single weaves will last you alot longer.

that doesn't even take into the fact of all the nasty, grimy, and bacteria crap that accumulates after you train on your gi

if you ask me don't be that stinky guy nobody wants to train with.

WASH IF EVERY TIME YOU WEAR IT. I don;t want that super staph bug. My academy offers a gi washing service. $10 a week and your gi is clean when you get to class every time. Well worth it since I train 4 days a week (3 days gi)

thanks man, this opened up my eyes. My gi is supposedly chemically treated, although i'm not sure how effective that is. Also, my gi doesn't stink at all. But thanks for the response, I will wash it more often.

thanks guys!

I wash my gi after every class. Buy a second gi so there is a rotation it helps out alot. I am looking to grab my third gi in the next month.

even if you wash your gi after every class and you train 5 times a week, it will still last longer than a year.

I wash my gi after every class. I am a sweaty bastard, and my gi is totally soaked when I'm done. Not washing it just seems totally disgusting, not to mention inconsiderate to my training partners.

get yourself 2 or 3 GI's and rotate through them. If my GI even touches the mat, I wash it. If I were to forget to wash my GI, I'd friggin' burn it. Don't forget to wash you belt every so often as well.

Ditto with everyone who said to wash it after every practice. With all the sweat that builds up after each class, it's just rude(and nasty) to NOT wash it before the next class.

People, wash your gi every time you use it. Just do it.

I friggin' hate people that don't wash their gis enough.

I actually recommend never washing it...I have been getting so many taps lately with my lay and pray gi in your face tactic.

Yeah, that got me laughing. I can just see the line in the tournament box score, "Submission (Armpit Choke)."

I thought you weren't ever supposed to wash the belt?

what the f__k planet do you live on where germs and bacteria don't grow on sweaty cotton like substances in the shape of a belt.

seriously.

I wash my Gi every day, and I have two so I am never in a rush to make sure its dry, and my belt twice a week.
