How often do Pro-fighters train? Amatuers?

I'm not even a pro and I train hard twice a day most days so can't see why a professional athlete couldn't train twice a day. Steroids are for cowards

How do you train twice a day? Like you go the gym in the morning and again at night? Double gymming?

lol at thinking you need doping to do 2 a day.

every pro i've ever worked with trained twice a day when preparing for a fight. it's brutal, and it leaves you no energy to do anything else, but if you don't have a job and it's the only thing you have to do, it's not that bad.

what people don't realize is that when you train twice a day, all the time spent not training is literally only for food and rest. there's nothing else.

Most sports with a-level athletes need training 6/7 days a week with full days of training (morning afternoon). You can't be a ginnast, ice skater, athlete or whatever without total dedication... Oddly enough team sports (where athletes get paid more) are a little less demanding, however there are few sports in which you can reach the top wiithout a load of sacrifice. MMA? i Have no idea

If you're as good as Nate Diaz, you need only train a few times a year.

Ya I have a gym at work and I work out at home too

Thats different my man. No offense but there is working out and there is training. The intensity is far different. I doubt you train full force for 3-4 hours at home. All props to you if you do.

I've been training muay thai for fun for quite some time now. I do 5-7 sessions from monday to friday (it depends from how I work). On weekends my schedule is work-couch-beer.

2 x session 6 times a week.

I miss those times.

USADA sure did change things up. Training hard multiple times a day almost every day of the week seems difficult without special supplements.
lol - boxing.
fail.

Happens a lot. Fighters are just too fucking tough for their own good but the mentality around training has changed a lot in the last 10-12 years. Coaches have gotten much more mindful of protecting their fighters from their own crazy desire and willpower.
hi Rogan.

Didn't Saki state after his win that he only trained twice a week: one day striking and one day grappling.

Sure, his cardio was not great, but he stated that if he got injured while in training, he wouldn't get paid.

Likewise, Askren stated that he really slowed down his training during his last couple of fights in ONE FC. He stated something like "I trained smarter, not harder."

In reality, they have a point. You don't get paid if you get hurt.

Ironically, Saki moved to the US and got hurt while training and hasn't had a second fight in the UFC.

hi Rogan.

I wish. I'm just a fat middle age dude who was broken by injuries out of high level competition. I have trained around pro fighters though so will share. Salty as you will. ;)

There's a difference between training and "working out". Training is usually 1.5h of sparring/drilling and working out could be a morning run, hitting the weights or some pad work. You could work out 3/day 6 days a week, not train though.

Age plays a big difference too. I bet Sage Northcutt could train more than Shogun in a week.

3x a day is deceptive. They might have 1 intense session then have 2 smaller sessions like a run or a little pad work, I would call a true 2x day multiple intense sessions.
Let’s see if we can figure out what 1+2 is.

None taken it's a good point. But their fitness and technique has been built up for years and years and they're able to train at a much higher intensity than one of us. Plus I'm sure they know their bodies and will take an easy day when they need one

That's a good point too. But it's very doable without steroids unless you're a pussy

It's not even really about how tough you are. I used to train 6 days a week with running and weight lifting bookending it. That was my early 20s though. If I did that now it would basically kill me.

I check the board's every day sometimes twice a day.
Still, I wouldn't take fight in the cage though because I wouldn't want to stomp some poor soul into Bolivia!
