How much of an advantage does MMA training really give you in a street fight?

LoL. People can do amazingly dangerous and stupid things while angry or on adreanaline. You havent seen it that doesn't mean that they dont actually have no capacity of doing it.

they aren't constantly exposed to fights like people who train, they didn't have explote with adrenaline on gym classes...

so we, trained people aren't "normal people", we have our body as a weapon by it's own. why the need to use another weapon?

so you see a dude who trains muay thai, on a street fight he uses a stick against an unarmed man ... then ... "hey man are you thai boxer? so why the hell you used a stick? couldn't you just fight unarmed? so finally why you train martial arts if you will be fighting like a "normal afraid to lose" guy?

i got in 2 fights where i used jiu-jitsu and wrestling and dominated 2 stronger guys with these techs.... but if more than one foe just run if you can also muay thai is effective in street battle

sensei charlitos you have taught me about the way of the samurai.

it's not so hard, almost 80% of people I know will do things like that, what I was talking about ...

men here are very proud, only pussies go with friends to kick one guy ass or use broken bottles to fight; and those coward one's are always being bullied by society because of not being "man enough" to fight.

here the MACHO (real man) fights alone and unarmed.

Well Charlitos...all I can say is good luck. Hope I don't read about you in the Internet trying to dual someone only to have them shoot you in the back as you're making your 20 paces.

You should go read about accomplished martial artists who made the mistake of thinking their training was the only thing they needed. Granted they may have been only acting on integrity--the bottom line is that martial arts from a budo perspective is meant to protect you when you happen to be unarmed and have no choice but to fight. The samurai were honorable warriors who lived by the sword and died by the gun. Think about that.

as I said before ... against weapons or group is a MUST to use your weapons or call your own friends, you will be a fool to fight unarmed on that cases, but against one unarmed, you go the same ... yourself unarmed

your "samurai were honorable warriors who lived by the sword and died by the gun" is the same I said on the last paragraph, a gun is a superior weapon compared to a sword ...

so doing an analogy it could be:

"one with no weapon" vs "one with a weapon" ...

in this case you MUST pick a weapon of your own ... so ... samurais died not because of code of honor ... they should pick up a gun and fight on same level.

and what if I died? I died fighting with my own techniques which I was taught and trained for years ... I did the best I could ... I died but with honor!

death and life situation with weapons/group dudes against you, of course you use anything you can grab even your keys to cut or whatever, but against one ... come on ... picking up a rock I really prefer to lose, run or die instead of using dirty things ...

ok final showdown ... you're fighting kill or be killed ... oh right ... in that situation you show if you know the other guy is already ready to give you the last final blow to kill you OK do a "remember gift" that is eye gouge to nulify for life and eye (or both), bite the throat, or bite an ear .... whatever which is also "unarmed combat", (I agree with all of this because it remains on the field of unarmed combat) so even if you're dying just clinch, put the man one eye blinded and that guy will remember you for life.

you know those thugs that always remember every big scar and how it was made, so you crush one of his eyes then RIP.

And you are still dead at the end. If you prefers to be dead than to be alive, then i have nothing more to say.

they aren't constantly exposed to fights like people who train, they didn't have explote with adrenaline on gym classes...

Because the later is a life and death situation, so using weapons and other means are a way to maximize your survivalibility. Never fights on equal terms. If you want your honor? Fine, use your fists. But when the other guy bang your head with a rock, you gonna wish you didnt give him an advantage by intentionally hand curf yourself so that you can feel better about your self worth.

not hundreds but around 20 since school time until now.

but it was always one vs one, and the times when I was outnumbered I choose the most brave one and tell something like "hey! can you kick my ass by yourself or are you a pussy? come on man, are you gay? fight alone, fight like a man (showing fists)", and they always pick that.

the only times against more than 1 opponents was in robbery on streets, but those fights when thieves realize you can punch good, they just left you saying "son of a bitch, you will see later..." or things like that.

Which mean you never in a situation where your life is actually endangered. I have no comment regard the one on one because you goad them to and they are stupid enough to follow. And for the robbery, they merely choose to flight because there is no reason to fight, which in itself a smart move because they just avoid the confrontation altogether.

Bottom line is that you can play white knight with your honor all you want, but when you are left alone in a puddle of your own blood because you handcuffed yourself with your honor thing, you might want to think about it again, provide that you actually survive a few stomp to the neck or a bottle to the skulls. Honor wont save you from death.

Samurai was "too honored" to pick up the gun and fight on at least equal terms. And they end up dead. Think about it.

so the extract is simple ... fight on the same level ...

if he is unarmed, you fight unarmed

if he is with a weapon or with friends you pick up a weapon (whatever you can grab) or call your friends (if they are near)

The analogy was designed to help you understand that the group or man who has the stronger weapons will prevail.

If you're fighting someone who say is a navy seal is went nuts from PTSD and he decided you were his target...are you going to try and go hand to hand knowing his "weapon" is better than yours? Or will you die honorably because you're too hung up on the unarmed vs unarmed? Just because both combatants are unarmed literally doesn't mean the battle is on equal terms.

Samurai was "too honored" to pick up the gun and fight on at least equal terms. And they end up dead. Think about it.

it was more of a tradition, they wasn't showed guns all the time in the media like us, we don't see guns as a taboo, they did maybe.

* I prefer to be dead than feel a coward all my life ... it's like steal a bank and nobody ever catch you, but you still have the bad idea surrounding your mind, and feel guilty forever. for me I will be thinking "I wasn't tough enough to fight"

* why you keep saying the "rock fight" was a dead or life situation? the big man was unarmed and untrained aparently, so maybe he was just angry and a kick to the nuts will stop him quick and if he won he won't be killing you man! he will just punch, punch and maybe spit on your ko'ed body. I do have seen that kind of things, nobody kills on street fights even angriest cheated guys, and you have always ... always someone that enters to separate both of you when you have one "winner" already. even an old man walking on the block.

*the thieves avoid confrontation because they do know they will lose on fight, because on other cases when weak people defend themselves the thieves got angry and make more damage to the victim but this happens when they do know they can win, so they are the most cowards one's.

*I saw on one party outside of city a guy fighting with slice on his belly and entrails almost getting off using a knife against one with another knife.
the first guy with his last effort make a cut on both of his opponents eyes. then people came (because it was a party and they were fighting outside of the house). and helped both of them but the one who received the cut on eyes got blinded of one eye forever. the other was in surgery and rest months but now is OK. ... so same level vs same level fight always.

The analogy was designed to help you understand that the group or man who has the stronger weapons will prevail.

stronger weapons will prevail ok ... but will always be seen as the coward by society and history

"so you couldn't win a war on equal terms, you need to use a bigger gun or an atomic bomb against those men who were using just swords and arrows, you're really THE MAN (sarcasm)"

24, that is
Sounds like it.
Look, samurais couldnt adapt to the new era and fell victims to the evolution.
You will not bring them back.
Id say you were very lucky in your encounters on the street- dont push your luck.
You havent met real thugs yet...

At the end people I think is more of a society way of thinking, maybe a mexican could understand me because they do have the "macho" way of thinking.

Maybe americans don't have that way of thinking, I'm not saying that's bad but we have our own codes, our own way of thinking about life and about fighting.

to be fair, most samurai did adapt and became an elite officer class in the japanese military.

I appreciate your words. well I'm not picking up fights every day ... just that people like to disturb me or enforce their will by force so I have to react.

Actually...while the gun was a significant factor in the demise of the samurai, they did in fact use guns and tried to adapt. Changes in the general society and politics of the time also contributed.

But seriously Charlitos...don't get all blood in blood out on us. The mexican culture isn't some honorable race where everyone fights on equal terms. That's a man thing, not a race thing.
