How much of an advantage does MMA training really give you in a street fight?

I love this idea that an untrained guy will immediately start trying to eye gouge and nut kick, fish hook, and all that. I think most untrained guys will either throw wild punches, or they'll clinch without a clue what to do after that. I think we also underrate how easy it is to put someone down who's never or rarely been punched. One good punch to the gut or face on someone who's never trained (especially if they're already drunk) will probably end their night.

The only untrained guys I ever worry about are big dudes who have played contact sports, because if you're strong and used to taking hits then you could be hard to put down. Even so, I think anyone trained in BJJ, Muay Thai, or boxing would win essentially every time if it's one on one.

boxing id say is the least helpful of the three you named but i pretty much agree unless their is a huge size disadvantage and aslong as its one on one ill put my money on trained every time

That's great, for you. What were you without the steroids? 120kg? I doubt there are many who would choose to mess with you on the off chance since not many people are going to be your size. But if you do get someone who wants to fight with you then they are probably going to be pretty serious and weights aren't going to help you in that situation. If you get a little guy who's willing to fight you then it's likely he's a serious customer and an experienced fighter. If you are that big already then how does weight training help you in anyway at all? You already have the deterrent factor for most potential attackers.

I bet this big guy thought he was untouchable, until Roger Huerta got involved.

i think he meant his opponent was on steroids (or maybe i read that wrong).

i posted this in Haze's thread but since its about streetfighting and someone brought up Huerta, i figured it would be relevant here as well. pretty good move for a streetfight (assuming you can avoid law enforcement after):

It depends on what they have..if they are unarmed and just a ''street thug'' , then MMA knowledge would be a huge advantage . Some basic BJJ and wrestling techniques will get you pretty far . Take them to the ground and then utilize the ground game.

Some people are instinctive and naturaly fight very well, so it depends on the situation. Im sure there are some guys out there that with out training can kick the s**t out of guys that train. That being said, without training there not going to beat the guys that are also instinctive with training.

I think most people don't take into consideration the intensity of training and sparring; lots of people train no light contact, some do medium and a few do legit hard sparring. So if the level of contact and intensity isnt at a certain level, your gonna get worked even against an unskilled guy.

Secondly size conditioning and attributes matter, even grapplers will talk about how a big strong guy could throw them around or take them down or be hard to control in clinches. So they could pose similar problems with a striker.

A untrained guy Brock lesnars size or even kimbo slice size would give alot of guys who train at a certain level alot of trouble, if not just kick their butts.
