How much longer will Sherdog last?

Anyone else remember that time they had to vaporize millions of likes just to avert server meltdown?

All of my favorite forums have either died or are dying, the last of them are going down now because inflation the owners can't afford server costs because it's not worth it. So feels like all forums are on borrowed time, most everybody posts in facebook/groups now. How much longer do you see this ancient relic of the internet lasting? It's crazy I still see join dates of 2002 on here.
Quite a while. I've seen many of the largest forums on the internet and saw the decline and what killed those forums. Sherdog thus far isn't showing many signs of those sorts of things. Its certainly slowed down, as all forums did once social media came to be, but its still very active

While smaller forums and niche forums and some Major forums died a death with the rise of social media because a lot of folks who went looking for a place to chat could now comment on tweets or reddit and because a lot of forums get dominated by overmodding, this forum has relative freedom from overly browbeating political correctness type modding and pretty honest centrist moderation and enough variety of sections to keep folks interested.

Forums like IGN boards, Ernie's house of whoop ass, View Askew and SomethingAwful were big enough to survive but died a death for overmodding once the wrong people came into power and becoming woke havens that punish normalcy and trying to charge folks to post there.

lmao.. the meltdown over it was hilarious tho.. tbh, I’m not sure @Buffaloed was able to fix it either which means they could get zapped again..

Mods killed the only other forum I posted on. The best posters tried to warn them for months but they wouldn’t listen. It’s been dead for 5-6 years now, maybe more.

lol.. she gave the OT a test, I do remember that. And I think Phil Baroni used to still stop in and post as recently as a couple years ago

@PhilBaroni

^Eh, says 2017 was the last active post.. thought it was more recent
What was the test? Oh my friends ran into Phil Baroni. He is CTE confirmed.

It is odd to me that they don't have an old school MMA sub-forum on Sherdog like the pro wrestling forums have for all the lapsed old weirdos that don't watch the modern stuff like at all.

I watched UFC 36 last week from 2002, opening match was they put the two guys that got squashed by Tito in the previous PPV's against each other, like neither of these guys landed a single strike on Tito and probably legit almost got killed, lets make them fight each other to see what happens. Great show though, the goofy looking ramp to the Octagon and all the pyro in the intro was like some WCW shit. I dug it. I can't believe we have posters here who have join date from when that show happened. That's how fucking old these boards are for real? Yall were really posting about Elvis Sinosic?

I remember finding Sherdog in 2007 with dial up internet, it would take about an hour to cycle through 4-5 shows results on the fight finder

No forums i'm in have vanished and a lot of websites still have them. The bigger issue is the decline of websites and their replacement with apps(the most useless invention in human history). But enough people use websites to keep forums going for a few more decades until the first generation of internet users start dying.

I do have the sense that reddit has replaced forums for gen z though whreas a millenial would look for a forum on a topic they're interested in I get the sense zoomers look for a subreddit instead.

don't know, I've heard people say it's dying but I don't really notice it. I used to only post in boxing but the sport has declined so much that I have virtually no interest in it anymore.

The other long time site I was on and off again was a Prince site, it was pretty fucked up and now it looks like it's dying to me. Has about 5 percent of the posters and forums it used to have. I never really liked them so I'm glad. Of course, it's not just changing times, it's that their subject died and didn't give them anything new to bicker and bitch about.

It’s definitely not heavily trafficked like it once was. I remember when a new thread could be bump off the first page in like 15-20 minutes because threads were getting made so fast. I also remember the server crashing because of too much traffic after just about every UFC.

There is still a lot of traffic though in the bigger sections like here

Those that quit watching dont deserve any favors.
