How many pull ups are a lot?

When I was first attempted as many pull up as I could when I was 17 I did 16 or 17. I'm nothing special so I can believe that a lot of people can do 20 pullups. The most I ended up doing was 21 and I rarely worked on pull ups.

No doubt, they are definitely easier when you are lighter and very young, I remember as well. A lot of people can do 20 pullups no prob. Most can't. We're talking strict hang here. Most people in the gym don't do 20 strict hang pullups nor do 1 strict hang. It's very surprising to see it tbh as most people do kipping lol

could probably bang out 40 fast explosive ones with swinging, not sure if they count as proper form pullups but great for strength training

I usually do 4 sets of 8-10 wide grip for back at the end of workout (bodybuilding)

Doing them daily helps to build up the number

I haven't trained for reps in awhile but I got 21 today at the park. I'm surprised but the next set I barely got 10.

Haven't maxed out in a while but I know I could pop out over 20 from a dead hang if I tried. I stick mainly to muscle ups though, I find pullups way too boring at this point. That being said I'd consider 20 from dead hang to be a lot.

I can't push the most weight in the gym but when it comes to the bar I'm like a freaking monkey.

Did you have trouble transitioning from Pull-Ups to Muscle Ups?

I worked out like crazy on Pull-ups for awhile, and got really good (20ish from dead hang) then decided I wanted to do a muscle-up.
I feel like I'm really close but just can't get past that little transition spot.

I've been reading and watching tutorials on muscle-ups, but I'm still not there.

I've been doing tons of dips, and rows, as well as shoulder press, as I've heard rear delts are a key muscle. I've also been practicing false grip, and I've also started practicing with straight bar dips.

Yeah for me it was basically a few weeks before I finally got it. Just keep on trying and keep on failing. Eventually you'll be able to get one side over the bar and then the other (ie. Your strong side ovecompensating for your week side) but just keep working at it and it will eventually even out as your body adapts.

I think what stops most people is that you end up looking pretty stupid trying to do muscle ups when you can't. You're basically flailing around like a retard while onlookers are secretly laughing at how stupid you look. But it's a necessary step. Just keep on trying and keep on failing and eventually it will pay off as long as you have the proper pullup base.

Btw, I'm talking about kipping muscle ups here. Don't even bother with strict untill you got kipping muscle ups down and can pop out around 10 in a row.

Yeah, definitely planning on kipping up first. There's a guy on Youtube that does a slow, no-kip muscle-up that just looks impossible.

Thanks for the response, this will give me more confidence while flopping around looking stupid!

Start with 20 and try one more each day until you can do 100 in a row.

Thanks.

Seems a few of you say you can bust out 15-20. I bet they aren't dead hang. Where the video at?

Alright I'll take your call out, and I'm not saying it's trolling or anything, but first; what's in for me?
