How low can it go , presidential politics 2016 style

Trump and his shtick is one thing but Rubio making dick jokes about a competitor strikes me as a new low , Trump has been in the gutter the entire campaign but he is more of a reality tv star than anything else , he says many things off the cuff I'm sure his team wishes he didn't , Rubio's remarks on the other hand were I'm sure pre-scripted .

This is heading in an unfortunate direction in my opinion , Trump lowered the bar and others racing to the bottom to meet him .

The only downside I can see to politics becoming more blue, is that it removes the politicians legitimacy, which I think they should earn, and not be given.

Can anyone offer any kind of tangible downside, to our politicians bringing down appearances?
