How is Jones going to beat Stipe?

If Stipe wins would be an huge upset to me I think it is funny how people mention Stipe being a good wrestler, did yall forget how DC lifted him and walked him around like some WWE shit?

There is levels to this shit and I honestly see Jones winning the grappling exchanges, Boxing range is the way for Stipe to win the fight but Jones vs Gane looked way better than his last lackluster fights at LHW.
 
Anyone writing Stipe off will learn on fight night.

This will not be an easy fight and Stipe is a live dog.

There's a reason Jon is putting this fight off until November.

Stipe is ready now.

Jon doesn't have Francis power and Stipe will not hesitate to stand in the pocket and knock his head off.

I don’t know about that. DC was able to do nothing on the ground to Stipe after the takedown, and then Stipe neutralized Cormier’s wrestling the rest of the fight, even taking DC down himself. Stipe was also able to out muscle out of Overeems guillotine, reverse to full mount and finish him.

Nobody thus far has been able to out wrestle or grapple Stipe for any significant amount of time. I’m not saying Jones can’t land a takedown, or win position battles standing, but Stipe ain’t going to just lay there and give up his neck like Gane.

That is not the point, did DC win the wrestling exchanges against Jones in their fight?
DC had a shitty gameplan that was way too focused on his stand up, wrestler falling in love with his hands a story old as time in MMA. I am ready to eat crow if Stipe stuffs all TDs of Jones and completely avoids the grappling but other than boxing range I don't see Stipe having an advantage here.
 
Either by KO/TKO or submission. Could be by decision or DQ though.

Summary: People are blinded by the Jones vs Gane and Stipe vs Ngannou 2 fights and fail to understand Jones is farther away from his prime (ended around 2017-2018) than Stipe.

Stipe's well known weakness is eye pokes. DC knocked him out that way. Hell, even Struve got in an eye poke that led to the finish.

Jones is a master of eye pokes.
 
Jones is better than Stipe at literally every single aspect of MMA. Striking, wrestling, takedowns, takedown defense, jiu jitsu, submission attempts, submission defense, clinch fighting, standup fighting, distance control, etc. And, of course, Jones is significantly younger and has been training full time for the past few years even with only the one fight to show for it. Stipe's only chance is that Jones gets very sloppy, leaves himself open to a counter-punch KO, and Stipe hits it perfectly. With Jones' distance control, that's a slim, slim chance.

Jones wins R2 by taking or knocking down Stipe in the clinch then reminding the world just how good his G&P can be.
 
I'm a fan of both and I really think Stipe is a hell of a challenge for Jones. Boxing and wrestling alone can nullify Jones, once Stipe is a big guy and natural HW, hell of a TDD and has quality boxing to keep Jones at distance. Jones has pretty basic boxing, but has better kicks. Cardio and power at HW are still unknown and I don't think he can take Stipe down so easily. Very hard fight.

A mild correction: Stipe didn't reverse to full mount, he got up and chased Overeem around the ring resulting in this famously hilarious picture:

The finish came when Overeem threw a halfheated kick, Stipe took him down and pistoned his face off.

But you are quite right to point out that Stipe ain't no joke on the ground. Because he doesn't seek out submissions, people tend to think he has no BJJ. The truth seems to be that he is almost impossible to submit, or so I gather from various scattered testimonies over the years. If Jones is under the impression he can do him the same way he did Gane, he's going to be very, very surprised.
