How is Izzy's TDD so good?

Yeah he’s definitely great at defending the wrestling and keeping the fight on the feet. Even his defensive grappling when Whittaker had his back was very good. Izzy’s TDD is 77% over the course of his career, which is very good. There are some other non-wrestlers up there, like Cro Cop at 78%, JDS at 81% and Aldo at 90%, which is fucking amazing to do over the course of his career.
Wow aldo at 90%??? That is crazy.

He does not have good TDD. His last two opponents were strikers who were trying to take him down and succeeded several times, and yet you claim he has good TDD? What's the matter with you? Not to mention he got grapplefucked right before those two fights too. AGAIN by a striker.

Adesanya's in an era of strikers, he doesn't have to worry too much about TDD.

I mean have you ever seen anyone have a better TDD than him?

The guy is like a spring , the more people force him down , the quicker he gets up.

My eyes were watching him getting out of all kinds of scenarios but can't explain what his secret is.

Any ideas?
long limbs and strong hips

To be honest call me crazy a guy like rock hold really poses a big threat to izzy. Long rangy fighter with good kicks and distance control and great wrestling with a scary top game

Whittaker isn't that good of a MMA grappler. Vettori is good, but he's very slow compared to Izzy and seems to rely more on strength than technique

Fighters like Prime Rockhold, Weidman, and Khamzat would do much better when grappling against Izzy (not saying that they will win though). They are all better complete grapplers than anyone Izzy has fought. They rely more on technique than simply outmuscling Izzy.

Izzy is also much stronger than he looks, and his height and reach advantage gives him another advantage. And as others have said, Izzy's TDD/scrambling at MW is very underrated.

Have I ever seen anyone have better TDD? I mean, Jon Jones does, Cejudo, Fedor, Aldo, Cormier, JDS…a bunch more probably.
But yeah it’s very solid.
Yup and even Whitaker himself actually has better takedown defense than Izzy I think but it's useless for him in this particular matchup. Izzy's takedown defense is very good but it's not atg level td defense. Those other guys you mentioned wouldn't get taken down even momentarily by someone like vettori or Rob. You need to be a much better wrestler than that

Izzy basically has had no opponents that want to strike with him, its funny reading all the comments how he's lucky he doesn't deal with wrestlers, when they all try for takedowns. Fact of the matter is it's much easier to gameplan against takedowns when you know your opponent doesn't want to strike with you. Izzy comes prepared. He also stays on the outside for a reason and has good counters on the inside. He also uses his long stature for leverage like Jones used to do, like how its difficult to take down a giraffe, they post and use the cage in their favor.

Izzy strong n quick, so he can squirt out when grips loosen for position. After Yan , guess Izzy sharpened his TDD including escaping.

Its good but definitely exploitable.
If Mariv, Rob and Jan have had some succes with it and none of them are wrestling specialist, I think a juiced prime Sonnen would give him trouble

He practices a lot of wall wrestling. He is still taking classes. Most fighters only train in specialized camps. He gets different looks from other people. He is also very fast for his size. It's hard to clinch up or wrestle someone who wants to avoid it. Rob is from Australia and their top of the food chain wrestling rep probably isn't that great either.

Granted, Chuck had a collegiate wrestling pedigree, but he always talked about the key for him was always to try to get up the second he hit the ground. Obviously there’s technique that has to follow that mindset. For some dudes it won’t matter how much they want to get up if they don’t have the skills. Clearly Izzy has put in some work.

long limbs and strong hips
Not sure about the long limbs part (talking only about TD defense) but I think the strength in the hips and possibly calves/thighs has a lot to do with it. Some people are just put together stronger in certain places; it has to do with genetics. Some have a physique that is hard to pull down to the ground and/or keep on the ground.

Guys like Chuck, CC, Aldo and Izzy have strength in those areas that allows them to pop out of a takedown far better than most.

That was Chuck's strength as a college wrestler just as it was in MMA (for different reasons obviously)- he was always hard to take down. He was a natural at avoiding TD's and getting up after them.

Wasn't very good against Jan..

That's because he was at a size disadvantage. Against a smaller Whittaker, he was able to get back to his feet and never got controlled on the ground.

Izzy's TDD is solid but not impenetrable. Unlike Andy, who fought a murderer's row of grapplers, Izzy has been lucky to compete in a striker heavy division. With Brunson likely done, there is no one left who really challenges Izzy. He doesn't have to worry about fighting wrestlers anymore, Cannonier doesn't pose a significant threat, and it will be a while before Periera works his way up the rankings. Until Khamzat moves up, Izzy will continue to rule MW.
