I have a 3 and 5 year olds and work 10-12 hrs rotating shifts 6 days a week in day shift and 5 on night shift, staying up past 10 doesn't exist anymore.

I don't know why they have to start and go so late. Drop 2 fights a card and start 1-2 hours earlier and end by 11pm-12am, I might make that.

As for why...
Cody Garbrandt from the UFC's perspective is past it. Figgy is past it too (due to age).

Look at the least stacked cards on the prelim card:
Sodiq Yusuf vs Diego Lopes. Both younger guys, high potential to be future elites and stars (due to their exciting styles) of the featherweight division.
Kayla Harrison. Good potential star power as an elite female American athlete, who knows how to talk in public. Can be marketed to casuals as Ronda 2.0.
Aljo vs Kattar: If Aljo wins he might be next for the FW title.

Main card:
Bo Nickal vs Brundage is the only one that isn't a title fight or a potential #1 contender fight. Again, like Yusuf, Lopes and Harrison, Bo Nickal's a future potential star and elite of the division, rather than having his best competitive and star power years most likely behind him, like Cody and Figgy.

The other fights are all between higher ranked fighters that any fights on the prelims, only prelims fights that are close are Jiri-Rakic and Marina-Andrade.

I get 'its a big card', 'ESPN/free main event', and all that... I don't disagree and it's probably a good tactic for this situation.

But UFC constantly puts the lower weight class fighters in this position. They are not treated like stars, and fans absorb that.

Pretty much every Figueiredo fight that wasn't a title fight, has been a prelim a fight. UFC tells us he is a prelim fighter.

Also, for these big beefy events, being on the prelims isn't that bad. Some of the fighters kind of get more exposure.

Prelims usually are better than the main card. UFC 300 is pretty stacked and I will be watching as much as I am able. They are honestly better than the main card in some way.

The strategy with the prelims is to get people tuning in early and jumping in for a last minute PPV purchase if they are enjoying the fights or a casual. If you tune in and see absolute bangers, you jump into the card to keep enjoying the action.

Nickal and Brundage aswell as Harrison (who will miss weight and lose) vs Holm should be as far from the PPV as possible though.

I am a fan of Nickal's skills, but this match up sucks. it's going to be boring and Holm is big enough to outlast a depleted Harrison (who fought at 155) and ish her way to a decision.
