How good was Sage Northcutt?

Good athlete, decent punching power. That's about it. Capable of winning fights at the entry level of the UFC but not much beyond

Oh boy...this thread took left turn so fucking fast

Great lightweight, poor WW.

Think he was literally undefeated at LW in UFC? I think he coulda been a contender.
Then they shipped him off to One with Mighty Mouse and Edward Sanchez.
Contender at lW? What is this based off?

Mickey Gall is fighting on the next UFC PPV at Madison Square Garden so he must be doing something right in life. If he wins it's time for UFC to sign Sage for the rematch!
He has some dirt on Dana or he is cheaper than a Dana Wanker pretender series fighter.

Dude is on some terrible .

goat until became a boat (bummest of all time)

WTH is up with the white belt Sage Northcutt threads here recently?
I think some random guy had a mental break down after I objectively broke down that Sage just isn't that good.

I have no ill regard for the young man. He is just not elite material and he will pay the price for it if he's mis managed.

I know what i see. He's athletic and solid, but not for the top animals now.

We'll never know. He's a text book study in being rushed. He genuinely showed a ton of promise, but he was in the UFC when he was 19, in his 6th fight, less than a year after he went pro. Then they threw him in 3 times between Oct and Jan.

If he'd spent a few years working his way through the smaller orgs he may have been derailed and never made it, or turned out to have a ceiling to his potential, and possibly made less money, but I think his career would have turned out better overall.

Didn’t we call him NorthGOAT or something like that here on sherdog?

He was sherdog king for a bit… and that means more than any championship

6-2 UFC, 12-3 overall isn't bad. Some would say it's a good record. His last fight was a win by heel hook sub in under a minute so he isn't a Houston Alexander.

He started out as overrated but then aquitted himself well enough to be mediocre.

I was out of the loop when he fought in the UFC.... Was he viewed as a new Machida or Thompson or did people ridicule him?
He did fine in ufc.

His style would be better in Rizin though

Very talented young man, lots of potential, but needed to be treated as a fighter, not as a project. His father Stifled his career growth, if he just fought seldomly against low level opponents each time for 3 or 4 fights maybe over 1-2.5 years, He'd have gradually improved into a better fighter.

Basically a talented fighter who could have gone futher if his career was managed properly.
