How good was Randall "Tex" Cobb?

Saw him in Fletch Lives.

He was disguised when he was trying to kill Fletch and after he escaped, Fletch made a joke that he knew who the guy was. He said, ”Sherlock Holmes……even Larry Holmes could’ve figured that out”.

To this day I don’t know if the sarcasm was referencing their real fight, or if it was a coincidence.

Yeah, Hackman plays the ex-USMC officer who leads the team. He's a Korean War vet, and he's trying to rescue his son who is MIA in Vietnam.
