How good was Mark Coleman?

Those are three guys that had good cardio and decent ground control. All three had dangerous strikes especially Rizzo. They were the prototype of the anti wrestlers like Cro Cop and Chuck.

The Rizzo decision was very questionable as well and you could argue Coleman did sort out his cardio issues in Pride, dropped some of the muscle he was carrying in the UFC and didnt gas in some long matches. Before people scream PEDs as well he could have(and probably was) on them in the UFC previously than had no testing.

Honestly its quite hard to know just how good he was because theres a big gap in his opponents, lost to Nog, Fedor and Crocop but didnt really face many of the guys behind them as he suffered from multiple injuries in the early 00's.

I think its pretty clear he's not one of the very best HW's ever but exactly were he would be in say the top 30 HW's ever might be more questionable. Early Pride era Coleman vs someone like Derrick Lewis for example would be interesting to see

He BETA'd Rogan that's all I know.

At last, someone said it.

2003 era Sylvia was lean and mean.
His length and TDD were tailor-made for beating up on grapplers.

I don't like Coleman's chances against either Tim or Frank.

Not sure how you can conclude that. Again, coleman is a lhw today, and randleman probably a mw. Just assuming they could do what lewis has done at hw is a bit of a reach, imo. They were talents for sure, as their wrestling credentials prove, but that doesn’t ensure mma success. King mo had modern training…….

Coleman was 240lbs in Pride FC and has absolutely rag dolled LHWs and HWs before and would power double Lewis with ease and so would Randleman because Lewis is a terrible fighter. Probably the poorest skilled fighter to ever make the top 5. Got easily taken down by a dinosauric 44 year old Oleinik and easily controlled on the ground and nearly submitted with a scarf lock until he got saved by the bell.

A modern day camp Coleman would push his shit in. And you can say Randleman was a MW but he has tossed HWs around like a ragdoll. And King Mo was a monster before he nearly died of staph infection and was in a coma for a month with an IV running to his heart. He was never the same after that.. but before that he was an animal and competed in Beijing Olympics and was Rashad Evans' wrestling coach. Pre staph King Mo would have wrestled Lewis sorry ass down with ease too. Lewis sucks lol.

It’s just silly to act as if there’s not a good chance lewis knocks them out. Oleinik did have lewis in some trouble but lewis was able to avoid the sub against a guy who probably would have easily finished the sub against coleman or randleman.

Guys like you want to pretend lewis sucks and ignore the limitations and losses of guys like coleman and randleman and ignore the knockouts from lewis.

Mark Coleman for me was that fighter that has a strong personality , strong wrestling back then but it feels that he never got that right direction of his career and development.

My question is

- If Mark Coleman keep fought in UFC 2000-2003 do you think he would get the belt?
- Would Mark handle Tim Sylvia and Frank Mir?
- Would Mark become dangerous if he had the confidence in stand up? I mean go for a KO and want to brawl?

Mir and Sylvia both would have destroyed him. Coleman was great when he had a size and strength advantage (against Frye for example) but he had a limited gas tank and of course never would have been able to pass a modern drug test. (Although Silvia and Mir both popped as well).

Best head butt in UFC.

They took away his best weapon and then they took his wrestling shoes also.

Lewis >>> El Duro Williams

The 1st Shogun fight was awesome with the free for all brawl at the end.

Baroni, Wand, Randleman hahahahaha

The 2nd Shogun fight was epic...CMON !

A flabby Hammer vs an out of shape Shogun!

Mark was a beast, so many fond memories of watching him back in the day!

Id put Coleman just below Edmond as the worst coaches in MMa history though.

Randleman would've been better off without Coleman screaming at him constantly from the corner.

"CMON KEV!...GOTTA FINISH KEV!...GET UP KEV CMON!"

1) Lewis got saved by the bell. Lewis still sucks and even fights he wins he gets dominated before landing a lucky punch

2) sure he could lucky shot KO them but that doesn't make him a better fighter as he still sucks and we are discussing the prospects of them fighting Lewis with the preparation of a modern fight camp like AKA where they can round out their game and add some good sports science to their game.

Lewis being able to KO someone doesn't make him a good fighter and it doesn't mean his overall skills aren't terrible. Current Oleinik is terrible. Current Hunt and JDS are also fossils and both walked him down and TKOd him with ease and Volkov was treating him like a bum unti the lucky KO.

Are we asking if we had a time machine or if he was born 20 years later and started training?

Mark Coleman would be Curtis Blaydes today. Not a knock on him

A guy as Blagoi Ivanov would be a tough task for Coleman
