How good Magomed Ankalaev is in comparision to best LHW all time?

I dunno man I'm looking at everyone on Poatan's resume and I comfortably pick big Ank to beat them all.

Poatan ducked big Ank for a very long time and for good reason. You're really showing your lack of confidence when you're fighting #8 ranked Khalil Rountree instead of the #1 contender. Saw the very same thing with Sean O'Malley when he snubbed Merab in favor of a Chito rematch.
We're counting theoretical wins as title defenses now?

I don't have the time to list the guys who would beat him but it's long. He has like 3 good wins. I used to like ank but the delusion people have now makes me like him much less

Unpopular opinion but most guys from 15 years ago would be cans today. If this was a sport, as we know it, that had been around for a 100 years it’s safe to assume 15 years wouldn’t be much progress. But for a sport that’s really been around 30 something years, skill is going to progress in leaps and bounds every 10 years, especially when there are exponentially more people participating in the sport.

People like forest, rampage, shogun, etc would look slow and unsophisticated today.

Glover was champion in his 40s like two seconds ago, and he wasn't as good as those guys lol.

Shogun is not from those guys generation, he was just very good at a young age (and fell off due to injuries). Considering he is 43, it would be odd to say he wouldnt look good today if he were in his prime. He is around Daniel Cormiers age.

You're on one if you think someone like Rampage wouldn't knockout someone like Johnny Walker easily. He'd legitimately have no chance. So I'd say calling fighters like Rampage a can is hyperbolic.

I believe today’s fighters are skill for skill better than old generations.

Anyone who last time was champ over 10 years ago is most likely inferior to him.

In terms of accomplishments however he is far below almost everyone u mentioned for now but he just became champ so let’s see.
what skills does ank posess that the older generations of fighters doesnt posses

do you also believe jamahal hill, freakin jiri and pereira and roundtree
are better than
gustafson dc jones and many more?

have you seen shogun and machida
ive seen shogun drag forrest griffin down using his wrestling
even machida knows how to wrestle

i dont see any of that from todays fighters

prolly put him above chuck at least. Prime chuck had past prime tito and 9001 year old randy as his measuring stick after getting plooked by low fight iQ rampage

Jones and DC are the only ones definitely above him. Just stylistically.

Prime Machida could be a good stylistic matchup but Ankalaev just seems way physically bigger.

All time LHW rankings imo:

Jones
Chuck
Tito
DC
Shogun
Machida
Rashad
Ankalaev
Pereira

With every win, Ank will move up a spot imo.

Oh no, I’m totally on one. Not denying that.

To me Glover was totally better than those guys. And like you said Shogun was good when he was young, and that was forever ago, during a weaker time.

I get what you’re saying, and I’m not afraid to get shamed for this opinion. But I really do believe there’s a much bigger knowledge base now, better nutrition, better weight cutting, more participants, better and more variation in training partners, more experienced coaches, etc.

I think talent is talent so maybe if in some fantasy land we had a young rampage or whoever training in todays conditions he would be good. But if we transported pride rampage over here today, yes Johnny walker might kick his ass.

So I stand on this opinion. Unfortunately there’s no way to test it. Shame away.

And bigger too.

Guys like Machida, Shogun, Rashad, Wanderlei, etc.. they would be all MWs now.

This is why reading comprehension is important.

I said anyone who was for their LAST TIME champion OVER 10 years ago … is most likely inferior to Ank.

DC was champ as recently as 2019 as HW champ and 2018 as LHW champ.

So by my metrics someone like DC or Jones doesn’t count. Both were/are champions more recently.

I’m speaking only for the previous generations.

I'm not sure why we're talking hypothetical, a lot of those guys did fight at MW. A lot of LHW's today can fight at MW, in fact previous champion did just that. And Jiri is the same weight as the guys you listed too. Jamahal Hill could likely make 185 also.

MW and LHW are probably the two divisions easiest to switch in.

“Skill for skill”

Yeah a guy who doesn’t have a single submission threat in his arsenal and couldn’t take down a glory kickboxer in like 30 attempts.

This generation has regressed. I don’t think Ank even makes it past Prime Gusto

DC beats the breaks off Chuck and Tito, if you are basing just off title wins lol. That would put Tito above Chick though, but DC tosses both those guys around, easily at that brother.
