How good is Fedor's brother, Alexander Emelianenko?

He's kind of a psycho Russian criminal. He isnt considered anywhere near as good as Fedor... but he had probably the same talent way less discipline.
That's Fedor's own account. Said Aleks was way more gifted as a fighter than he ever was, just lacked discipline. Watching Aleks just move at his size, easy to see why his brother thought so much of him. Big men don't move like that.

We can deduce that Fedor was 100% correct, going off of the events in Aleks' life over the last decade or so. No discipline, at all.

All i remember is he had superfast hands for a guy his size. And that fight against James Thompson where if you didnt know either fighter it looked like Alexander was about to get demolished by a jacked up Thompson. Thompson got destroyed.

Yeah for 6'5 250lbs he was pretty light on his feet.

TBH I always found him to be quite overrated. Sure, he looked good against James Thompson and Ricardo Morais, but he got his shit pushed in by Cro Cop, was nearly KO'd by Kharitonov who only lost because he had no fight IQ and tried to shoot on Aleks, and couldn't even put away Josh Barnett in a straight-up kickboxing match during which time Barnett handled himself well and helped Aleks along as he gassed by working him over with great body shots. It's true enough to say that with more discipline he could've been better than he was, but to act like he was six months of hard training away from being able to run roughshod over the HW division is quite a stretch.

Just in that 2006 OWGP, he was beaten by Barnett, he would've for sure been beaten by Cro Cop and Nogueira, he would've likely been beaten by Werdum, Overeem, and Hunt, and he may have even been beaten by Wanderlei and Fujita. As for the UFC fighters of that era, in no universe would he have been able to deal with Tim Sylvia's reach and boxing, unless he clipped the chinny Arlovski (always a possibility) he would've gotten brutalized by him, Couture would've gassed him in the clinch and taken him down and beat him up, Jeff Monson would've been able to north/south choke him in 2006-2008 just as he did in 2013, even Gonzaga could've probably fucked him up on the feet with his power and he definitely would've had the advantage on the ground.

In short, Aleks was a solid fighter who had the potential for more but was never truly elite and probably even at his best would've been lucky to be in the bottom of the HW top 10.

I think saying aleks is a bigger fedor is a bit lazy. They never really fought all that similar. Aleks was his own fighter.
Yeah he also was so physically different it wouldnt make sense for him to fight like Fedor.

I wouldnt hold the crocop fight against him. He was very young, inexprerienced, and fat there.

I agree that he had POTENTIAL,but never realized it.

Dude, Japan didnt even want him anymore. Not a single somewhat legit low level organisation gave him a fight. The hepatitis thing was a big factor in his career
Its not about wanting him anymore. No org is allowed to have a guy with Hep to fight. Not in Japan. Not in the US. Not anywhere in Europe other than shady E. Europe orgs. Add to the fact that he is a Felon...its completley ruined his prospects.

Thought Japan was pretty loose with everything given the juicy fighters. But heps a nogo.

It was pretty clear than indeed it was over. And also the rape case. Him and Fedor are homies with putin and he still served 4 years. It must have been really really bad

while that gif is badass and showcases some of his strengths, it also showcases one of his weakness how he would lunge into his strikes like that. sure, he had some highlight reels that way, but he got dropped by Kharitonov that way even though he still won the fight, and was tko'd by a much smaller Caucasian fighter by lunging in that way and getting caught with an overhand shot.

Granted, Fedor did that too. but Fedor was more explosive than Aleks.

Aleks seemed to address that later in his career when he was fighting in Chechnya and didn't lunge into his strikes as aggressively. but his take down defense was still a major weakness.

Most recently as of 2017 through 2018, he would have been a problem for UFC heavyweights and a guy that could have gotten any of them out of there on any given night and in a hurry. But he was also hittable and his take down defense was such a glaring weakness he could have also had a bad time. Either way nowadays he is a good example of what happens to a man who doesn't take care of himself

I don't know too much about him apart from him being Fedor's brother

28 wins 9 losses, 3 time combat Sambo champion. I don't know most of his opponents, is his resume great? Is he comparable to Fedor at all in MMA accomplishments?
He s very talented but he s a degenerate, undisciplined and an overall mess. Could have been one of the greats. Imo.

Aleks piecing up Ricardo Mutant is still one of the greatest finishing sequences of all-time.

We all thought the sky was the limit for him after this one and the James Thompson stoppage.

Love that clip.
I'm surprised this wasn't the 1st video posted.
