How good is Fedor's brother, Alexander Emelianenko?

All i remember is he had superfast hands for a guy his size. And that fight against James Thompson where if you didnt know either fighter it looked like Alexander was about to get demolished by a jacked up Thompson. Thompson got destroyed.

Brutal and devastating
Yeah, Aleks had nice hands and good sambo, shame he never had Fedor’s athleticism or work ethic. Or character.

His opponent in that vid, James Thompson, is the same James Thompson whose cauliflower ear famously exploded years later when Kimbo Slice punched it.

Imagine a 6'5 250lb Fedor.

Unfortunately Aleks didn't have Fedors work ethic.

Fedor went to the army while Aleks went into the streets during the 90s which was a bad place to get your education.

In short Aleks had problem with alcoholism and wasted his talent and became a CTE riddled drunk.

He could have been an all time great.

Pretty much this.

Aleks had the talent he just never fully reached his potential for all the reasons above.

I don't know too much about him apart from him being Fedor's brother

28 wins 9 losses, 3 time combat Sambo champion. I don't know most of his opponents, is his resume great? Is he comparable to Fedor at all in MMA accomplishments?
Now? He's not very good. In his prime he had some good wins.

His resume is nowhere near that of his brother.

There was a time he could have been in ufc and grab that belt from Andrei Arlovski or Tim Sylvia.

He did not had the discipline sometimes like his fight against Fabricio Werdum.

I am pretty sure that if he was signed by ufc 2008 , had the right training camp he could have been something.
Aleks would have been such a terrible match up for Arlovski and Sylvia. There would have been a murder in the cage.

I think saying aleks is a bigger fedor is a bit lazy. They never really fought all that similar. Aleks was his own fighter.

Aleks had all the tools and potential to become the MMA GOAT HW. His brain processing ability of knowing right from wrong along with drinking Vodka like as if it was water were the only things that prevented him from ever reaching that potential.

Dude, Japan didnt even want him anymore. Not a single somewhat legit low level organisation gave him a fight. The hepatitis thing was a big factor in his career

This one is mandatory viewing as well lol. Very short fight but chaotic. James Thompson was never elite, more a mid-level guy. The difference between his demeanor and Aleks’s has become an MMA meme.

he sparked Thompson in 11 seconds then sparked another big dude (Ricardo something) in like 15 seconds, out cold. his hands were crazy quick for his size.

2004-2009 era Alex wouldve been UFC HW champ, im pretty sure. only serious test around that time wouldve been Randy imo.
nowadays Alex gets KO'd twice in a few weeks by fuckin Datsik of all people

He had a ton of potential. If he was really committed to training hard, he would have been a top HW imo.

Quick hands for a guy of his size, and good power in his strikes, but realistically, he never really achieved anything notable in a nearly 20 year career outside of a win against Sergei. I enjoyed some of his fights but if he never had that surname he'd likely have been a footnote that people wouldn't be speaking about much

He could've been UFC HW champ when Tim and AA were at the top and he was in Pride.

Aleks from back then would light up most of the UFC HW division now losing only to Ngannou and Jones imo

In UFCs HW golden age he would be near the top but not get the belt. He'd lose to all the grapplers IMO

Barnett, Werdum, Mir, Cain probably even Brock... JDS v Aleks would be tits!

Aleks piecing up Ricardo Mutant is still one of the greatest finishing sequences of all-time.
Standing_KOd.gif

We all thought the sky was the limit for him after this one and the James Thompson stoppage.
<Fedor23>

He was dangerous on the feet, but I can't think of anyone good that he ever beat. Also, I firmly believe that being Fedor's brother is the only think that's kept him from being imprisoned for life or murdered.

He probably couldn't have gotten into the U.S.
