How Good is Derrick "Black Beast" Lewis?

"Yeah beating 3 Ex UFC Champs and 1 Ex K1/Strikeforce/Dream Champ isn't enough" - Fat cunt sherdogger

I think he needs to prove he can do more to attack with than getting flash ko's, like when he pulled that kimura out against hamilton, to prove in fans minds that he can be a long time great and that he won't fall to the same challenges he's fallen to in the past. KO'ing everyone else is great to watch, but he hasn't really done anything to show he'd overcome that same hurdle

To get the next title shot? Nah, he doesn't need to do shit. He's already more deserving than Stipe or anyone else.

Beating Blaydes was a step in the right direction. But we still haven't seen him get taken down and show the necessary skills to get back up and continue imposing his will and win, not at this level atleast. Untill then it will always be the obvious gameplan to beat him.

He isn't a bad fighter but he has HW conditioning. I don't believe he can sustain the same power after 2 rounds. He has a HW ground game as well. It's good when he is on top but it fails when he gets tired.

He looked a bit winded in the post-JDS interview and was perspiring a fair bit.

How is he more deserving than Stipe? Stipe demolished him?

And then Stipe lost while Francis kept winning. Everyone who has challenged for a title has not had to avenge all their losses before they got it, it's a matter of momentum, and you can pass someone in the rankings you lost to by beating everyone else, especially when they have either lost or done nothing to maintain ground.

Also, no one should ever get a title shot off a loss.

I agree with the last part, but ultimately those two losses back to back, for me, means he needs to avenge one of them before he has a title shot, you can't ignore them

Highly ranked HW fighter needs more than three consecutive wins for title shot.

Problem is the HW division is dying on its ass, it depended on the last dregs of the 00's crop of HW for way too long and now those guys are finally on the way out theres almost nothing else.

Ngannou is in rare waters, he still has further evolving to do but right now is one of top heavies in sport. If he didnt tentatively fight Lewis, it be hard to argue he fights dc-stipe winner( if DC doesn't retire).I actually think hes next.... regardless. I dont know what the reason why White isnt a green light on this but whatever.

I mean they gave him Cain as well. It's not his fault he knocked them out before they could really go for a takedown. Dude needs a title shot there's no one left for him to fight.

It's difficult to get tested when people drop like dead flies just from whiffing punches. Ngannau has been given 3 difficult matches on paper. 2 grinding wrestlers and 1 "technical" boxer. It's just not his fault the wrestlers died from the first punch and the boxer had a stroke of cte and thought he was a pitcher instead of boxer who could stick and move. He has beaten the #3, #4, #6 and #8 ranked in under 5min combined. There is no one else in the UFC top 20 that will test him apart from DC and Stipe. Maybe he will never beat them, but it's fair to say he deserves another chance.

Well, MMAmath can't be used to say one guy would beat the other, but it can absolutely be used for rankings. It's why the number 1 contender fight should be two guys with good wins, not one guy with good wins, and one cannon fodder. Cuz ideally, both of them have the rest of everyone else beat, between the two of them.

Basically, all the top ranked guys should either have been beaten by you, or beaten by someone you beat. And JDS' streak included Lewis.
