How good is Conors Jujitsu/grappling skills?

Judging by his mentor, with this ass Jiu-Jitsu or something...

...we can imagine how it is.

Striking aside, how good is his jujitsu skills. I know John was the first Irish BJJ black belt and so I assume he is probably Conors original BJJ mentor. But aside from that, has he competed in grappling matches? Did he have a pure wrestling/judo/sambo/submission coach outside of BJJ?

I'd watch Conor vs Khabib in Sub underground lol

It’s probably better than most suspect. He has excellent flexibility and looking at the gifs above he doesn’t make many mistakes when in grappling positions. He doesn’t burn energy unnecessarily and doesn’t power out of bad positions, he uses technique.

That being said, he knows where he has an advantage so he won’t be going for submissions.

If Dustin forces him to panic wrestle, Dustin could definitely catch him in a guillotine...but Dustin will have to force him to that point. I bet it’s very unlikely for Dustin to take him down and get a sub.

Imagine getting your black belt from kavanagh. Should just throw that useless shit in the trash.
Has he ever rolled on video before against a credible bjj guy?

His grappling is better than what people want to give him credit for. His striking is just so much better than his grappling that they use it to fault his grappling skills. He defended against Khabib for almost the full round, Khabib knew he couldn't rush it because of Conor's defense. He chain-linked multiple take down attempts just to get him down and wasn't able to get his back on the mat until almost the end of the round.

He also lasted longer in the fight than other fighters who people think have better grappling credentials than Conor. Conor's style is more defensive grappling and not so much offensive grappling/submissions. That's why you don't really see him going for submission attempts.

Conrad’s BJJ brown belt is equivalent to Rashad Evans’ black belt...it’s just handed to them

Conrad is at most a purple belt on the mat

I don’t even think he’s a purple. His ability to ball up, or sweep Nate one time, has people overrating him.

* and Nate didn’t care about being swept onto his back, he trusts his guard game and long limbs against anything Conor had on the mat, IMO.

Conor, if anything, is decent at TDD which isn’t emphasized in BJJ much but on the mat, his base and shrimping movements are decent and enhanced by his thinness and athleticism.

But 75% of his BJJ knowledge is blue belt level.

Against Nate he was badly gassed/rocked, and I think he just gave up mentally so that's not a good indicator, imo. Against Khabib he handled himself fairly well until the submission, and Khabib is Khabib - no shame in getting taken down and submitted by him. I think his BJJ is kinda underrated, but we still need to really see it. Maybe Poirier will show us.

The fact that you're making fun of him for inverting and calling it ass jiu jitsu is really embarrassing for you.

Looked alright against Khabib in the first round, but he used up too much energy for just defending.

he did compete in BJJ. He also did amazing on the ground against Khabib before being submitted. People who think Mcgregor has no ground game should see Justin on the ground vs Khabib to see how fast a guy with no ground game gets subbed.

The main problem is that its actually hard to judge someones BJJ in mma a lot of the time due to the nature of srikes.

Im sure if most of you actually rolled ( no strikes) with Connor you would come back saying his belt is justified.

He is a competent grappler

Ive been somewhat impressed by what little ive seen. If it was a big hole in his game it would have been exploited more. A submission loss to Khabib in the 4th is not all too bad considering more credentialed grapplers like Dustin and Justin only made it to rounds 3 and 2. Besides that fight he hasnt been exposed too bad (i dont count his exhausted panic wrestling against Nate where he was looking for a way out).

I give it a 7/10. Good, not elite.
the only reason he survived to the 4th round is all the cheating attempts, if it wasn't for that, he would ve been submitted in the 2nd round by kimura, like all the other bums. Al iaquinta survived without cheating once.

Competent yes, but there are a lot of hobbyists who train 4x per week for the last 10 years that would kill him. This is fine, except for the fact that he’s supposed to be a brown belt. I have no problem putting him at purple max, but again, there are so many 3rd-tier Jiu jitu guys who can smoke him.

He’s a blue belt with a purple belt level base and hip movement.

He’s got brown/black belt level TDD however. Now way he’s a legit brown belt in BJJ.
