I am tapping whites, dominating fellow blue belts occasionally submitting them and surviving purples, often stale mating them. I survived a brown belt last night. My half-guard SUX, my full guard is defensive rather than offensive or threatening and in order to pull most submissions I have to be on top or else they wont work.

How far am I for purple and what should my training priorities be?

still a ways to go methinks...

you're deep into blue belt and you're still asking questions like this?

I had stripes on my blue belt, they fell off. I don't plan to ask my coach to put them back on.. I'll get a purple belt when I get one, or I'll be mythical 10 year blue belt. Either way I don't really care.

Blue belt is a time of reflection... namely reflecting on the fact that belts mean jack shit.

Just focus on improving, who gives a shit about the belt. You need to care about the journey. If all you're focusing on is some arbitrary destination of being told you're a purple belt, you're never going to be satisfied.

In Judo you have to beat 10 black belts to be black belt. So maybe when you defeat 10 purple belts. So far it seems like you're still not purple yet. You're a high level purple but you're only surviving purples and not dominating blues. Remember what level you were at when you got your blue. Maybe when you're tapping blues and beating purples from time to time.

Or if you feel like you're purple, then go ask your professor about it.

You should definitely ask your instructor. Let us know how it goes...

Would you like the answer in yards or meters?

How long have you been a blue belt?

I also need age, weight, height to digest the information.

I would expect a lot more from a young fit blue belt than a older gentleman if you know what I mean.

I always said that the smaller black belt that came theought was way tuffer that I was because he suffered 10 years of getting squashed.

To conclude, purple is a serious belt, I call it the mini black belt. if you go over the curse of the blue belt and make it to purple, you are very likely to become a black belt.

that sounds like me and im nowhere near purple. you probably have a ways to go my friend

I haven't trained in a while, and things have obviously changed, but blue belt was always about developing the ground work for a complete game. If you're a top player who just holds on for dear life otherwise you probably have quite a bit of work to do before you're ready.

If you feel like you have to ask, probably a while.

I've never asked my instructor about belts, and like a poster above me, the stripes on my blue have fallen off (a couple of times). About a year ago, told me he wanted to move me up to purple, but that I needed to spend a year working on not letting people pass my guard. I've done that, and he's now given me the specific goal of beating/dominating someone he's decided to use as a benchmark. Just need him to show up....

maybe in 6 months you will go from an invisible belt to a white belt

Is that an African or European purple belt…
