I have a hard time imagining how this fight plays out. Usually when this is the case, the fight gets called off. I am not a psyhcic, just a tax accountant who is on Sherdog too much in his spare time. But the last time I couldn't predict how the styles would clash was Khabib vs. Tony.
I don't think this fight happens... Cormier or Stipe gets hurt. Sorry.
But in the rare chance it does happen, what goes down? Do you guys think Cormier can wrestle Stipe? Has anyone outwrestled Stipe in the UFC? We know he is an accredited wrestler and utilized his wrestling in his offense quite successfully a few times... but has anyone tried to wrestle him? How will he hold up?
He sometimes leaves his head exposed and with the real threat of takedowns that Cormier imposes, this could be interesting because I can see him getting clocked with an overhand. And what will Stipe's cardio be like defending so much pressure?
We know Cormier can take a shot, he took a real shot from Rumble and lived to talk about it. Can he take Stipe's shots? Stipe is without a doubt the baddest man on the planet, but the HW division is also pretty shit. He is on a nice run, but Francis aside (who has never been really tested, he just had a couple nice KOs and got pushed to the moon), Stipe never fought prime level competition.
The focus of this fight I feel revolves on Cormier's wrestling... he could ragdoll the likes of Barnett, Hendo, etc... but against Jon Jones and Alex Gus who have physical traits (6'3 or taller, long reach) similar to Stipe, he did not have success at all.
