How do you rock Conor with a Jab? Boxing Basics explained.

you think wrong then, it didnt wobble him and he didnt suffer a concussion

Notice how he starts throwing looping punches after that instead of his usual laser straights. That jab definitely hurt him.

I think he just has a really good poker face. Even after Nate landed the 1-2 that rocked him worse, he keeps pretending to be fine and trying to throw with Nate for a while.

Some people have a different definition of what rocked means. I used the term to mean, a hard blow that knocks you off balance form a balanced position. The fact is most punches to the head that do that indeed knock ya silly, just like your face suddenly slamming into a pole while you were walking. So it appears some, that rocked means you can no longer stand- which I of course disagree with. People get rocked several times a fight, and Conor was rocked again about 30 seconds later.

Still I appreciate all the support, it has done alot to drown out people who are very angry over a semantic argument at best that has little to do with what the article is about. So thanks for the support.

Thanks for all the support!

I'm glad at least some people were able to see what I was on about. I will continue to improve and try to be a slightly more concise in the future.

Good thread. I wouldn't say that Conor was rocked (loss of equilibrium due to concussive force) but I remember that punch and it definitely caught Conor off-guard. As someone earlier in the thread typed: you should take these posts to the stand up forum. They would definitely appreciate the post and discuss the technique much more than the assholes of the heavies.

Rocked means when you get hit and you're out of it, because your brain got smacked into your skull, AKA you got concussed.

Usually if your brain got smacked into your skull harder, you would get KO'd, but because it didn't get smacked into your skull THAT hard you're still conscious and on wobbly legs/close to being out.

I am pretty sure you are right, Conor did get rocked by that jab, you can tell by his demeanor afterwards.

It was clean on the jaw, too.

I think so too, I just don't think it's an argument about what the article is actually about- how to throw a sudden "power jab" with your full weight behind and no tell. Plenty of pro level boxers don't even know the trigger step, so I figured it was a topic interesting enough to write about. Thankfully the majority of posters agree with that much.

Great technique break down. A thread with actual information. Well done. So many people missing the point in this thread.

Watch the video again, you can obviously see the punch that clearly got Connor square on the Chin was the Right Cross. You also cant say a jab is as powerful as a right cross.

Except that Diaz fights south paw so his lead hand is his right-and was his lead hand in the gif making the punch a jab.

Most jabs are not as powerful as a right cross, a trigger step jab done correctly however is pretty close.

Diego Sanchez grandfather was a pioneer.

I like it. A good way to see this the effectiveness of this is just by resting your jab hand against something (a wall will do). And just life you lead foot of and all your weight basically falls on your hand. Practised well, this can be a quick hard jab. Thanks TS.

People are getting bogged down in semantics and the meaning of "rocked", which is a pretty vague term. Bottom line, that jab had a lot of pop and clearly effected and hurt Conor.

Whoa, a Diaz brother lands a jab and it's suddenly a respected tactic.

The jabbed has shamed on Sherdog as much as the TD or Oblique kick.

you are rocked when you are "out of it", i wouldn't know how else to describe it.
