How do you rock Conor with a Jab? Boxing Basics explained.

You do realize everything you described is simply part of a basic jab.

The are different jabs, some paw, some shoot up, some leap in from outside- this one turns it into an instant power shot.

For the record, the named of the thread includes "Boxing basics explained."

I'm an in training boxer with 15 fights, the idea that you think what you typed is some how enlightening is a large part of the reason the heavies are so looked down on.

I think if you said stunned instead of rocked no one would disagree. That jab clearly changed his demeanor and what he was doing in the fight.

That's how I see it as well.

When I (and I imagine many posters) think 'rocked', we envision someone on wobbly legs with a scrambled brain. That said, it also makes sense to me how rocked could be interpreted to mean put off balance / caught by surprise, even if I don't use the term that way.

I can't give Conor fans any crap about arguing over it for the above stated reasons, and also because when Chuck fought Wanderlei, I'd argue with people on here all the time who said that Wanderlei 'rocked' Chuck in the second round.

Plus, it's in the thread title itself, so it's the first thing catching people's attention. Add to that, Goldberg is famous for saying "he got rocked!" regardless of how hard the strike landed, haha, so people on here are a bit defensive.

Anyway, thanks for the write up TS.

Conor didn't get rocked with a jab. He got clipped with a beautiful 1-2 and it's the 2 that rocked him.

Thanks for the effort TS, real talk.

Pawing is not a jab. What you call "leaping in from the outside" is fundamentally a basic jab, what you call an instant power shot is also a basic jab.

Interesting.

Would be great if we could see Nate's legs during this punch...

Would be easier to really gauge what had happened.

I just wanted to say, I am the one who posted the Didn't Read gif.

It was just a light-hearted joke and it was a first for me. Actually I forgot I ever used it but I didn't expect it to upset so many people. TS had a good post. Was just going for the comedic timing. No offense intended.

So I apologize. This thread keeps popping back up.

TL;DR: Diaz hit him with a regular jab, and Conor has no chin.

Now please explain, in 1,000 words or less, how Nate rocked him with a Stockton bitch slap.

With practice you can do this instantly and easily. It becomes natural, it just feels unnatural till your body learns it.
Interesting - good thread TS. How'd you catch this? Is this something you were taught, and so recognized it live?

This technique sounds very tricky, which is probably why it's not more well known.

Jack Dempsey was a very smart guy. Tyson says he copied his style from Dempsey.

THEN DELETE IT.

Incorrect. Go back and watch that part of the fight, there was no straight thrown. Just a jab by itself. You'd understand why and how if you read the very detailed explanation Above.
You're looking at the wrong part of the fight. That's the problem.

With so many shitty threads here, why don't people just read for a minute and learn something instead of arguing about the definition of "rocked" which isn't exactly a technical term.

Good thread. I learned to throw that punch from Gene Fullmer, who was hit with a few by Sugar Ray Robinson.

You guys are arguing about the same thing neither you are wrong, you're talking about throwing a basic jab and he's talking about how to achieve that jab. Standing still, moving, shuffle step how sweet are your feet..? No two fighters throw there jab the same the better you & disguise the more success.

Whats with this crazed desperation here? That's obviously not the crux of the argument.

It is because you, and you alone- that I was forced to define Rocked so that you would understand what I meant by it. It's on the previous page but i'll post it for you here:

"Rocked: Struck so hard that the blow knocked you completely off balance from a balanced position."

Now can we get over this and you go back to being salty about Conor instead of what you pictured in your own head when read the word "rocked."

So what is your definition of knocked off balance?

For what its worth, i really like your post and think its very informative, which doesnt happen on here often, but rocked and knocked off balance cuz youre caught off guard briefly have different meanings. It was def the 1-2, where conor doesnt see the 2 coming at all, that rocked him.

And not even a defender of either fighter. Just liked seein a brawl. Cant hate the diaz bros, and love him or hate him, conor is good for the sport in many ways.
