How do you rock Conor with a Jab? Boxing Basics explained.

This is just kind of boxing 101, its the very first thing i learned about punching in boxing. Your hands always move with your feet, reach comes from your feet not your arms, you should hear your foot hitting the ground not your punch landing etc..
The diaz bros just do the basics really well, GSP was the same.

Not trying to disparage your post, TS, its a good, detailed explanation of a proper jab

to be fair, "Boxing Basics Explained," is part of the title.

This. The technique sounds interesting, the execution explaining it could've been a little better.

I agree, but I think he means don't shift your weight to your back leg before lifting the front, the idea being that you basically fall into the jab causing more force when it lands.

Conor got tired throwing his left like a bomb over and over, as well as getting sucked into the mental Diaz vortex that saps fighters' wills, and then was rocked by a cross. It's weird that you can't see this, because it's an incredibly obvious moment of someone going from not rocked, to rocked, by one single punch: the 2 in Nate's 1-2. I think maybe you are just in love with this jab and so you are projecting.

And here is exactly what getting rocked by a jab wiht no set up motion looks like:

He is knocked off balanced and doesn't recover before getting rocked again 30 seconds later.

So weird that something so plain and simple requires justification.

He was no doubt rocked there as well.

But If the getting knocked off balance and slackjawed that happens @ 2:54 isn't considered getting rocked, then nothing is.
he didnt get rocked at 2:54. he was off balance and quickly corrected his feet. look at the speed of his counter compared to all the other shots he threw after getting rocked(actually) at the 2:22(roughly) time.

he only got rocked once in the fight, not twice

he isnt rocked in that lol, you put all that effort in to your OP to make people think you knew what you were talking about as well? I actually feel bad for you lol

It's a little bit of an awkward/confusing discription but it you try it a few times it makes sense. The point is not to rock backwards at all to your back foot or push up with any jumping motion with your front foot but rather lift the front foot and let your weight fall forward so that your body weight adds power to the jab.

Yup, that's the one. It's funny how people nowadays paint prime Fedor as a reckless brawler with heavy hands.

Least touched fighter in MMA, even now at 1.0 significant strikes absorbed per minute. Anderson is 1.79 and Machida is 1.59 for a reference.

If getting blasted backwards off balance and losing your aggression doesn't qualify as getting rocked I don't know what to say.

Perhaps I should use a different word? But I think it is proper and people are simply griping because when they think rock they picture some zombie like movement rather than someone getting hit so hard they get knocked off balance. but whatever, it's not the huge contention you're making it out to be, that is for sure.

its a good, detailed explanation of a proper jab

You're mixing a few things up here. A "proper" clean jab is not thrown from the entirety of your bodyweight resting on your forward foot. It is thrown from a stance where your weight is on your backfoot, and can be shifted during the course of the punch's path onto your front foot stepping forward, but doesnt have to be.

But this is not what we're talking about here. We're talking about a jab which is initiated from a stance in which the entirety of your weight is already resting on your front foot, before you make any step whatsoever. That's why it's hard to read and powerful. The risk of this technique is getting yourself Aldo'd.

Also like someone else said this thread should be in striking discussion, you'll get fewer replies, but better ones.

Conor gassed TS, move on.

Since when is only having 7 minutes of gas a valid excuse? He knew for 8 weeks he was going to be in a 5 round fight. If he didn't bother training accordingly that's no reason to try and take credit away from a guy who rolled off the couch 10 days before the fight.

Fantastic post, ts. I really enjoyed learning about this. What a majority of dumbfucks we live with here.... Makes a guy not want to bother trying.

Thanks, again.

regardless of whether the jab rocked McGregor or not, I enjoyed the read. Makes a change from people posting absolute fucking drivel.

I think if you said stunned instead of rocked no one would disagree. That jab clearly changed his demeanor and what he was doing in the fight.

for the sake for Clarity, let me define "Rocked" as used in the article.

Rocked: Struck so hard that the blow knocked you completely off balance from a balanced position.

I was taught this technique, but I didn't know any of the historical references, it was a nice read.

losing your aggression? he almost immediately fires off a counter shot at nate when he regains his balance
