Situations change. A fight that made sense for Jones 1 year ago no longer makes sense now. Sorry but Stipe lost the right to that fight. As many others have said, Stipe could have cemented his shot at Jon Jones by fighting Tom Aspinall for the interim title. Stipe refused to fight Aspinall. Therefore Stipe loses his right to fight for the title.

Jon Jones should be doing the honorable thing and fighting Aspinall, who clearly merits the fight. Instead he's choosing the easy fight and avoiding the hard fight. That's ducking.

The situation did not change. When Aspinall vs Sergei was announced Dana said no matter who wins they are rescheduling the Jones vs Stipe fight. What has changed since then? The ufc is literally continuing with exactly what they said they were going to do. If Sergei won, Sergei would be the one waiting. So he’s not ducking Tom. You’re literally ignoring the facts surrounding the situation.

Simply having and winning a fight doesn't just make you #1 in the world.
Francis beating Ferreira who is 20 on Tapology and 10 on Sherdog and Fight Matrix. Beating him is not the same as a #1 contender level fighter. Assume Frank beats Ferreira, then who is next? Meanwhile Tom is fighting much higher level of competition. Same as why Jon isn't the top HW IMO. He has 1 win ever at HW and it was a perfect style match up for him. Almeida, Volkov, Pav, Tom, Blades would all give Jon more trouble.

Frank just beating fighters isn't enough to be #1 in the world. Sure he is the Lineal HW champion and maybe he retires with it but not fighting or dropping to a much lower level of competition doesn't mean you keep your #1 rank. If GSP comes back and revives TKO MMA and fights regional level WWs is he #1 in the world again?

What you think of the HW roster in the PFL. There have been MLB players who went "Down" to lesser leagues like Nippon League in Japan or NHL players who went to the KHL in Russia. The PFL has had some decent fighters and Bellator had a few as well but even combined they don't have the depth that the UFC has. HW is very thin but the UFC does have more ranked HW then anywhere else.

Calculating rankings seems to be all over the map.

Tapology's rankings vary from Sherdog's and they vary again from Fight Matrix.
Its curious who they all vary and have different ways of calculating their spots.
Everyone has Tom #1. Tapology has Frank at #11 but the other two don't have him ranked. Fight Matrix is supposedly calculated with some formula but they have Nemkov #7 yet he has only 1 fight at HW??? Sherdog is massively biased towards the UFC and have Tom and Jon 1 & 2 as they automatically tie the UFC title to the top spot.

Since Francis last fought Tom has very impressively beat Volkov, Blaydes, Pavlovich and Tybura. Personally that is a lot more impressive then anything Gane has done. I wish Francis had been fighting in MMA but can't blame him for boxing. He can't be #1 in the world if he beats Ferreira but then faces cans for the rest of his career. HW is so thin and having some top fighters sprinkled around other Orgs makes it hard to truly judge.

You have to fight actively to stay ranked

UFC rankings are a joke. They manipulate the rankings to be favorable to promote and sell fights to guys they want to push.

Fight Matrix has the right idea. If you look at their rankings Jones and Ngannou are not ranked fighters because they've been inactive too long.


But even fight Matrix has some serious UFC bias. I mean there's not a single non UFC fighter in the top 25 pound for pound. You mean to tell me UFC has every single top 25 p4p fighter under contract? Give me a break. They're lazy rankings.

I don't blame fight matrix. When pride got bought, the UFC became the premier org. There were still a handful of fighters that belonged in the top 10 that weren't in the UFC.

But since then, UFC either signed those guys or they aged out, and there is little doubt that the best fighters are all in the UFC.

Ben Askren was really the proof that showed in this era, wins outside of the UFC mean Jack shit.

Gane has defeated Volkov and Blaydes. Overeem also beat Sergei and Francis beat a better version of overeem. None of Tom’s wins are as good as a win over Gane. Francis has already defeated Blaydes twice as well. If he beats Ferreira that’s enough to be the best HW in the world because his streak will have continued and he’s not a paper champ. Tom would need a win over Gane or Jones to overtake Francis right now. Francis adding another top 10 win would put his resume even further ahead of Tom’s.

Gane and Volkov are fighting at UFC 308. Assuming Jones vs Stipe goes forward like Pink Goof wants, I don't see Jon Jones accepting the Aspinall fight after Stipe. Jon will probably refuse to retire gracefully, but at some point in 2025 Dana White will have no choice but to strip him of the heavyweight title.

Then we will get Aspinall vs the Gane/Volkov winner for the real undisputed title.
