Why do refs only speak English? It must be a huge disadvantage and safety issue for fighters who don’t speak English. Looking back its pretty damn impressive Jose Aldo dominated the FW division and had no fucking idea what the ref was saying all this time.

They don't. Look at Palhares. It's a known fact "body language" and "sign language" only work for English speakers.

There are plenty of bilingual refs. Mario Yamasaki comes to mind.

But even if they aren’t, it’s notntoo hard to figure out what they are saying. If you just hit a guy low and the ref comes over to talk to you, it’s obvious what he is going to say.

If Matt Hamill didn’t complain then no fighter should have an excuse.

It isn't hard to understand nods indicating 'are you ready?' and feeling hands on your back telling you to stop.

He should immediately leave your mind because he fucking sucks.

Don't you ever talk about the Just Bleed Ref like that.

That’s why Dern has a translator, duh!

Aldo understands English just fine, he had an interview earlier today and didnt wait for his translator to translate questions asked in english before replying. He just doesnt speak it to not butcher the language or its a pride thing and hes trying to make a point I guess

there are special signals for those who don't understand english

Used to be worse in the NHB era...The Ref would sometimes have to explain the rules to a Russian or a Brazilian... in the ring during the fight!
