How did Diego Sanchez (unranked) get a fight with Gil (#2)?

Because he was so damn impressive against Gomi... Gil doesn't deserve a shot at Diego!!

Or get Gil an easy win to thrust himself into a title shot after TJ

Bcuz of the card its on and the location of the card.....Hispanic last names=$$$ down here lol

Sorry was answering the TS lol

Agreed with the fight doesn't make sense.

IMO, Gomi should have gotten the decision against Diego and Bendo Gil was a draw.

In terms of ranking, Gil is way ahead of Diego.

Maybe Gil Maynard seeing as Nate is going to his high school reunion.

I have no idea how that matchup happened. Nothing about it makes sense. Gil has nothing to gain from winning.

Have you never heard of a tune-up fight ? If Gil's objective (and the UFC's objective from a promotional standpoint) is to get Gil back to a title match, then the thing to do is to get the ball rolling again against a well known opponent who may be competitive on some level but that he should ultimately win against.

Would you prefer Gil fight a top 5 opponent, quite possibly lose, and begin a fade into obscurity?

It is a good fight and a name fight. Thumbs down for the whiny TS.

Rankings don't matter

He's a fairly big name, is hispanic, and is going to put up a fight while getting his ass beat against Gil.

A lot of the top LWs are tied up atm, and Gil isn't that close to a title shot, for now at least, seeing as how he just lost in his last fight. It's not the best matchmaking, and Gil should win pretty easily, but it's an okay match up considering the context.

The UFC loves Diego. He's the first Ultimate fighter after all. I wouldn't be surprised if he upsets Melendez.

Bigwigs love Diego's sloppy ass fighting "technique" akin to their love of Leonard Garcia until he lost 1836282 fights in a row, winning some of them.

It will be an awesome fight and likely gets Gil back on track to a title shot, no problem with it.
