How crucial was Trump's choice of Mike Pence in winning the election?

The democrats couldn't write Dr. Carson off as racist -- their preferred method -- so they wrote him off as crazy.

Utterly irrelevant. This was The Trump Show.

True, but hearing The Young Turks compare Pence to the guy in my Av made me cry with laughter. For that alone, I like Pence.

Hail the Red Pence!:D

Not crucial to winning. He's just assassination insurance.

He was a far better choice than Tim "Uncle Creepy" Kaine though. That's for sure.

Democrats who wanted Sanders as VP don't understand the concept of smart VP vetting.

You always pick a non-centrist far leaning politician that isn't nationally electable. It also helps if he's a bit creepy/scary.

This is what you want in a VP candidate. Leftists asshats that are more scared of your replacement.

If Clinton chose Sanders, you'd have Bernie Bros plotting to kill her so they could have their Jewish socialist messiah as president.

If Hillary had picked Bernie as her running mate, she would have won.

It was close enough as it was, if she was fully appeasing the Bernie supporters, she would have gotten a substantial number of votes just to get him into the White House.

it was crucial in that it wasn't sarah palin level of bad, but that's about it

his trolling/bravado won it pretty clearly

It was crucial. He locked up the evangelicals. So important.

I don't agree with Pence's views on homosexuality.

I like that a man of faith is the VP though.

I'm not sure if you can really quantify Pences impact. I definitely he was a major positive but not sure how much he swung the election.

I think where Pence made the biggest impact was with never trumpers. He has contrasted greatly with loony Tim Kaine which was helpful. Also he never did or said anything that the press could use airside Trump... which is no small thing.

I tend to think evangelicals were with Trump from the beginning. I don't think he was in trouble with them at any point even after pussygate. Christians knew that Hillary was pure evil and had nothing but evil intentions. Christians saw Trump as flawed, like everyone, but fighting the good fight against evil. They were never going to turn from him.

On the campaign trail, the number one task of a VP pick is "do no harm". Pence did his primary job well by not looking like a buffoon in the debates.

Beyond that, he may have had some insight to the campaign's midwest strategy and helped secure Evangelicals. Not sure how much of a help he was overall, but I have to believe his overall effect was positive.
