Not everyone is closeted and struggling, there are a lot of victim players in this era, who latch onto something to feel cool or part of a movement that they see is pushed in media and get praised.

I don't know what each particular person's motivation is, or how honest they are being with themselves.

Millions of gay people are pretending to be straight, and I'm sure some straight people are pretending to be gay, or bi, or trans, for whatever reason.

Most likely though, liberal, progressive communities like Hollywood or New York or Toronto have more openly bi, gay and trans people not because people are trying to be something they aren't, but because they feel free to be something they are.

A lot of gay or trans folk from smaller, less accepting, more repressed communities move to these metropolitan areas for exactly that reason.
