Not striking and just trying to bulldoze in is like turning the clock back to the very early UFCs. Its like saying strikers don't need to learn takedown defense and how to escape and reverse positions on the ground.
Of course.
I didn't mean to suggest that anyone should be one-dimensional.
It's just that they should concentrate on the skills to make it the fight that they're good at.
Of course Ronda should train standup, but her focus should be on working to get the clinch and take the fight to the ground. The way she set things up last time was too easy for Greg Jackson and Wink to work around.
There is a balance. You have to admit that guys like Kos and Maia went too far with their "new" skills at times, and lost fights because of it.
Kos didn't have to brawl with Paulo Thiago; he looked ok until he got caught. This was a winnable fight for Kos.
Maia didn't have to stand at distance throwing kicks at Marquardt. He may have lost this fight anyway, but he didn't have to catch the first counter that Nate threw.
