How bad would prime BJ have beaten Conor?

By our logic in ten years Conor's resume won't matter because the game will have evolved . And Tito is one of the best lhw ever. He also beat vitor and sent wanderlei packing for japan. Tito carried the UFC through some dark times and without him the UFC as we know it wouldn't exist

its definitely possible that guys will have a better overall level of competition 10 years from now but the Tito/Hughes/Penn era is an extremely weak one in terms of fighter talent. lots of leagues were still in business at the time that aren't now and those leagues have since been bought out by the ufc.

for example, Hughes' first fight back from losing the title to Penn was against Charuto Verissimo who had like 5 fights. he fought guys like Joe Riggs and Chris Lytle. Tito fought guys like Elvis Sinosic and Ken Shamrock. you only see that kind of shit in the women's division nowadays. resume-for-resume, Hughes, Penn, and Tito don't stack up to a lot of guys in the top ten these days.

I'm not a Conor fan, but come on now. BJ was good for his time, but even BJ in his prime would get slept by Conor.

Conor's best path to victory is a repeat of the second Diaz fight (and Nate Diaz is nothing close to resembling BJ Penn's quality in literally any category). Basically, Conor by decision, he's not gonna knock BJ out if Machida and the other list of WAY bigger killers didn't come close to doing.

BJ could easily repeat what Diaz did, and he's by far the best takedown artist and best grappler Conor would have ever faced. If it hit the ground, it would be over laughably fast.

It would be a fun fight, Conor is an amazing fighter, but be real guys, he's fought nobody even near prime Penn's level...not even in the same dimension as Penn.

BJ was a very offensive fighter on tbe feet, much like Conor. I guess it depends, would Conor follow BJ to the ground if/when he drops him? BJs TDs were never anything amazing but got the job done plenty of times before, both fade in the later rounds.

Idk, probably Conor. Before the Aldo and Nate fights, maybe BJ. Nate fights exposed holes that Mcgregor could patch and Aldo KO gave him godlike confidence.

2 weeks ago if anybody would've mentioned a hypothetical match between a legend versus Conor, I would've just taken the legend's side by default, since I'm a Conor hater and always looking for the next person to beat this disrespectful clown who doesn't embody what martial arts should be about.

He slept Aldo in 13 seconds. One of the greatest fighters ever in the middle of his prime and Conor slept him in 13 seconds. Aldo just routed P4P contender Frankie Edgar 5-0 and Conor put him to SLEEP 7 months before that. Aldo's resume and win-loss ratio shit on BJ's. Aldo's striking is ahead of BJ's by leaps and bounds along with his cardio, wrestling, athleticism, and believe it or not, takedown defense. BJ's jiu-jitsu is probably better but we don't really know.

BJ Penn's mystic "prime" is based on beating Hughes at 170 and baseball punch throwing Gomi. Literally like 5 months of BJ's career. Any adversity faced before or after is immediately written off as not being his prime and the fighter that we saw lose to Pulver in 2002 or GSP/Hughes in 2006 are just absolutely different from "prime BJ Penn" and shouldn't even be brought into the discussion.
