Watched Karloff's Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein. I really enjoyed them. They might be a little slow at times, but I just got lost in the background sets and props. Trying to find Son of Frankenstein streaming to finish off the trilogy.

wrong thread for this, I know, but- since you mentioned the James Whale film- last week I saw a special screening of Young Frankenstein (to promote Mel Brooks' behind-the-scenes book about it) and it holds up as patently hilarious. So funny from start to finish. They hit all the right notes on that one. Wilder is a legend. RIP.

Re-watched a bunch of films.

City of the Living Dead
- While everyone says that this is the weakest in the Gates of Hell trilogy, I have to disagree. It is atmospheric as hell and has two of the best death/gore scenes in a horror film. What Fulci botches with a coherant story, he more than makes up for it with a chilling, memorable film. Besides the weak ending, this is such a grand film about evil. 8 out of 10.

Messiah of Evil - This is such a unique film and I believe Fulci might have been influenced by this film. Once again, it focuses on evil. The town of Point Dune is a great setting. While some of the acting is indeed wooden, it is another brilliant atmospheric piece. It is chilling on how this town is just enclosed with evil. While some of the plot points are nonsensical due to cuts, I love it. Especially for the deaths of the characters of Laura and Toni. Very memorable. 7 out of 10.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch
- I will never understand the hate on this film. Yes, it does not have Michael Myers as the center point, but it is a damn good film. The idea that an evil coven is planning on killing mass amounts of children with Halloween masks is frightening. The score for the film is awesome and I'm a huge fan of Tom Atkins. While it is far from perfect, it is definitely a cult classic to enjoy. 7 out of 10.

I really enjoy Halloween III. Hell I love Halloween and really like Halloween III, Halloween II and H20 as well. The rest are pretty shitty from what I recall but particularly, particularly bad are Halloween Resurrection and Curse of Michael Myers with all the Druid shit.

Season of the Witch is awesome and unusual. It kind of melds genres sometimes going from horror to sci-fi thriller and Conal's compound sequence ends up resembling some Roger Moore era James Bond flick lol. The mask stuff is creepy as shit and very bleak when you think about what that evil plot is and the villain is memorable (O'Herlihy delivers a good performance). Atkins is a boss and the ending is memorable chilling a la Invasion of the Body Snatcher's panicky ending.

Plus that Eight More Days till Halloween jingle really gets stuck in your head.

They're not Swedish Mac they're Norwegian!

gets me everytime

speaking of Halloween I have always kind of looked down on The Return of and The Revenge of, but I kinda like them now

Ive heard nothing but bad things about it. was there anytghing worth watcging it for?
Nope. I rented because I had the whole day free. Really tried to get into it but it's just so bad. It feels like an empty shell of a movie. Somebody came up with a weak premise and every other scene feels like filler. I'm really surprised it was in theaters.

Blair Witch 5/10 (2016)

If i paid for this, the score would be lower, but knowing its a found footage movie, i knew a stream wouldn't look bad.

The good things first. More actors, more sounds, you see the witch.

Bad? More actors means less development. Some of those sounds were...monsters? Almost the exact same build up and climax but worse cuz shit is rushed. Shaky camera now shakes more and blurs most of the time.

So, the bitch from the first one has a brother and he gets old enough to go venturing into the same woods his sister disappeared in and convinces other kids to come along. Its not believable what so fucking ever. The kids sister is definitely missing and he goes camping to see if shit is real? Ok so the blair witch project world exists in this and no one is scared? All of them should be too afraid to go in there, but its just a camping trip to them. Dont forget, they all agreed to go where someone went missing and their footage was found showing scary shit. Dumb.

I saw rhe original in the theater and heard about it through word of mouth. I didnt know if this movie was real or not! Thats what i loved about it. Now, we all know it spawned the found footage genre, making this a tired ploy.

Still, this couldve been fine. It DID hold my attention and had a slightly better ending, but god dammit, i could hardly see shit. A blurred lens is not fun to watch, regardless if it heightens realism.

I do recommend this to anyone who loved the 1st but if you hated that one, youll hate this one too.

The Witch or VVitch

Hope you like shakespearen dialogue cuz if you dont, you better turn closed captioning on, otherwisr, youll be lost as fuck. Not only is the dialogue dated as all hell, but its hard to hear. Still, unless theres an underlining theme going on here, there isnt much to figure out.

Story takes place some time when England came to North America. A family is banished and forced to live outside of a village. In the woods next to where they live, is a witch.

This movie is a carefully put together shock movie that is placed in a time line. Thats it. A lot of talent and care was put into it, sure, but it's nothing more than a movie full of scary imagery, suggestive themes, and a plot of misery.

The first thing the witch does is horrific, but its not shown, its not explained, and it goes no where. Thats what a shock is, frankly. The scene is meant to shock the audience and nothing more. Then it happens again and again, all the way until the end when you find out something that may or may not had been the problem the entire time. And then it ends.

Cant say i recommend this and i honestly enjoyed Blair Witch more, despite the giant amount put into it.

Thought the little girl in this was creepier than anything. She was just in an adult costume, nothing more.

4.5/10

YIKES!!!! You enjoyed a film that relied on jump scares compared to one that was genuinely unsettling? To each their own I guess

rewatched The Ring last night. So happy over the years hype has kind of died for it (granted we are getting another sequel next year). Really not that good. Tried watching Ring 2 after, until the CGI deer attack. Turned it off after that. Genuinely LOL'd at the beginning too.

That part is right!

Any other corrections you care to share? It is your test of reading comprehension, after all.

What in the actual fuck are you talking about man.....
Youre asking me to explain why you quoted me and believed i prefer jump scares? Never did i type jump scare in either of my recent 2 reviews. You assumed i didnt like Witch cuz it didnt have any....but it did. I didnt like it cuz it was a nicely crafted shock movie.

I cant think for you, son.

You said you prefer Blair Witch to the Witch. One relies heavily on jump scares til the end, the other is atmospheric. That's not an assumption as you called it, that's a fact to anyone who has watched the films.

You don't have to specifically type in jump scare, when that's all the Blair witch is til the end lol
