Horror News & Discussion Redux

n
You said you prefer Blair Witch to the Witch. One relies heavily on jump scares til the end, the other is atmospheric. That's not an assumption as you called it, that's a fact to anyone who has watched the films.

You don't have to specifically type in jump scare, when that's all the Blair witch is til the end lol
No,man. Dont put words in other people's mouths cuz they didn't like a movie as much you did.

Shit blair witch > VVitch

Quote that then ask why if you require discussion assistance.

blair witch is better, and there are no jump scares also it does not use music....maybe you have them confused
No. Blair Witch is the new film, which is what we are talking about and is all jump scares til the end. You are thinking of Blair Witch Project.

No it isn't. It had more than VVitch. That's not why id recommend the new blair witch as the funner horror.

I rewatched Watchers (1988) with Corey Haim and Michael Ironside for the first time in many years.

Wow, what a piece of crap.

Going hard on the horror past week. Movies off the top of my head I remember watching:

My Best Friend's a Vampire --- Fun pg rated horror. Remembered loving it as a kid, so gave it a rewatch, and its still enjoyable.

Cemetery Man -- Fucking classic

Thale -- Meh.

From Beyond -- Fucking classic

Lights Out -- Great film. Easily one of the year's best horrors. Surprised some didn't think so.

That trailer for Ouija is awful. Nothing but out of date 10 year old CGI. Can't scare anyone when the effects you are working with are shit.

Got around to seeing Lights Out the other day. It's not bad by any means, but I didn't think it was anything special, either. It's only 80 minutes long so if nothing else, it was a very quick sit with a handful of tense moments thrown in.

Garbage, absolute garbage looking film.

Most blatant looking cash grab horror film I can recently think of.

It was announced today that the film God Particle, to be released next spring, will actually be the third installment of the Cloverfield anthology.

Currently half passed watching The Monster.

What I've paid attention to was atmospheric. I don't like the things the mother says to the daughter at all though.

This thread needs some action and be revived, I need my next batch of horror movies to watch (plus I need my lurking fix, I love reading different point's of view and discussion on horror films). So I will start.

Watched the Blackcoat's Daughter AKA February last night. I still cannot get it out of my head, this movie is a masterpiece. It’s a slow-burn movie directed by Oz Perkins (son of Anthony Perkins if I’m not mistaken). The cinematography, the atmosphere, the tension is so palpable it makes me feel uncomfortable just writing about it. We follow a story of three young girls, two of them stay in their boarding house over the holidays and one escaped a mental institution and things are about to get very unsettling. I will not say much more as I think it is best to go into the movie not knowing anything (although some might see where the whole movie is going, it is a little predictable and I was not surprised by the unfolding of the events, but I don’t think the “surprise” was the point of the film) and just enjoy the slow dread swallowing you whole. It is an exercise in patience but the end result is well worth the wait.

I know this is a subjective experience, I’ve seen plenty horror films, but this one just clicked with me. The disturbing imagery, interesting subject matter and the psychological deconstruction made this film one of my favorites in the last years. Plus all three leads (Emma Roberts, Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Boynton) are amazing in portraying their characters. If you liked the VVitch and The House of The Devil, I definitely recommend this film, if you like jump scares and fun avoid it like the plague.

I loved The Witch and House of the Devil. I'll have to put this on my short list.

Just a heads up. Sinister, It Follows, and The Wailing are streaming on Netflix.

Theres actually quite a few movies I'm looking forward to this year and I really hope they do Jeepers Creepers 3 justice not like the 2nd one.

Looking at the movies coming out this year it just seems like more of the same: remakes and more sequels, examples (annabelle 2, insidious 4, jeepers 3, world war z, 2, saw, Friday the 13th, the Ring, IT, etc.). I'm not exactly complaining but come on, when is a new type of horror gonna catch on? Milking a franchise and just rebooting classics gets a little old imo.

Also why are almost 99% of newer horror movies the exact same and follow the exact same plot:? They are all jump scares that follow the same beginning, climax, and ending. There is no originality and even the ones that are original are quite lackluster.

Also Blair Witch and "It Follows" were possibly 2 of the worst horror movies I've seen that were supposed to be "great". Barely a level above the Paranormal shittivity imo.

Just watched Sinister. I loved the idea and mystery behind all the disturbing images. I feel like this was the only idea behind this movie because it quickly dissolved into jump scare bullshit at the end. I would maybe give 6/10 for a great idea but no real ending. Next is It Follows

I fucking loved It Follows. The score, the imagery... Truly unique with a heavy dose of retro.
