Horror News & Discussion Redux

another one that you probably have not seen but is really good and original is Triangle. I would put that on top of the list with It Follows. Oh, and Byzantium.
I wanted to like Triangle more. It is an interesting idea at least. Worth watching for any horror fan. And the girl is hot.

I watched The Invitation last night. The flow was a little weird, it was slow, which I don't mind at all, but then it got slower and slower and then BANG. I liked it, not sure if I could watch it again though.
Spoilering since I know very few have had the chance to watch it yet
LOVED the pace. Things slowly just get more and more intense. It made the climatic dinner scene even more impactful. All film I was wondering if he was crazy or if this shit was for real. When dude gave his speech about murdering his wife I was pretty damn sure it was real lol but still a powerful reveal scene.

Plan on rewatching this tonight  second favorite film of the year so far behind Neon Demon

I watched or last weekend. Very slow burner. I really didn't think they were acting weird enough to make that guy suspicious.

That was kind of the point, he had great instincts but didn't know if he could trust them cause he was damaged goods so to speak.

Recently re-watched "Murder Party" and wrote a short review for it

Jeremy Saulnier is one of my favorite directors right now, his two most recent films (Green Room & Blue Ruin) are two of the best movies I have seen in the last five years or so. I originally saw Murder Party years ago when it first came out but I was too young to fully appreciate it and didn't really have too many memories of it, once I realized that Murder Party was in fact Saulnier's directorial debut I knew I had to go back and check it out again.

The film centers around a lonely young man (Chris Hawley) who lives alone and has no real plans for Halloween other than sitting at home with his cat watching horror movies. On his way home from the video store he stumbles upon an invitation to a "Murder Party", Chris assumes that this is just an invitation to a normal Halloween party and decides to put on a homemade Halloween costume & attend the party. Upon arriving Chris quickly realizes that the party is anything but normal, instead it is actually a project set up by an art collective made up of some very pretentious artists. Their plan is to murder Chris simply for the sake of art, and everything just spirals from there.

I love the plot of this movie and the overall comedic tone of it as well, the film never takes it's self too seriously and they do an excellent job of mocking the art scene. I was very pleased with the way the characters were all written, I loved how calm and casual they all were through all the insane events that transpired throughout the film. The acting was all top notch for a low budget flick, especially Macon Blaire's performance (who has been featured in all of Saulnier's films so far). It's very rare that horror comedies are able to be genuinely funny but "Murder Party" really succeeds in that sense, it never felt like the comedy was forced or anything which made the jokes really land for me. One of the things I really like about Jeremy Saulnier's films is how brutal and violent they are, and "Murder Party" definitely doe not disappoint there. There is a massive amount of gore and brutal murders (hence the name), even during these scenes though the film still manages to be hilarious and make you grin.

"Murder Party" really delivers on multiple fronts, it's violent, hilarious, bizarre, and at times super witty. If you want to laugh and you are not afraid of a little blood then I highly suggest checking this out, it's a blast.

8/10

The Invitation

I felt like there was a missing a scene when the one girl left early and was followed out. Like a scene of what happened to her, or at least shows her car still on the property but, when you put it that way, I can totally see why they would leave that out, and just keep you guessing. The only thing that didn't really work for me was finding the computer in the office with the video to confirm his suspicion. I thought the movie was doing great with misdirection but this was a little too easy to give away.

Just watched We Are Still Here yesterday. Overall it was ok, It ended up not being as serious as it wanted to be, but in the end it was all good.

Also watched The Collector last night. I don't know why, but I still love these type of movies. I also really like The Collection. Nothing that new being done but just the way it's done is great to me. There were some holes but the action never lets you think about it too much.

Going to see Don't Breath tomorrow which has over 90% RT.

We are still here was decent. This guy does really good horror reviews, thought his review on that movie was spot on.

Check out his disturbing movies series of reviews.

It's a lil obvious what my favorite horror movie is but I'm excited to see they will be opening the gas station from the original TCM as a horror themed restaurant in October. Edwin Neal (hitchhiker) will be there. This is like 30 min away from me so I'm def gonna check it out. Ed was one of my fav characters in that movie. I'll have to think of something cool to bring to get signed.

oh yea, definitely gonna check this out

Thinking of doing a horror movie review, would anyone watch it?

Watched Starry Eyes the other day, was really impressed with it, it held nothing back and made me feel uneasy in parts. Really good performance from the lead.
