Horror News & Discussion Redux

Sad news for fans of Monster Madness, this will be the final year James does a marathon of horror reviews in October.

RIP

Ended up being a winner.

Psycho III, not so much.

Lol, I think 3 was directed by Anthony Perkins. I think 2 is a worthy sequel of 1. The guy who made Fright Night wrote the script for pt2.

If you have the DVD it has a good commentary.

Prison (1987).

Anyone seen this? One of Viggo Mortensen's first leading roles, and you could tell the guy was talented. He put more into most of his scenes than is required for a movie like this. Also, one of Renny Harlin's first movies, and you can tell that he is talented visually. He makes some awful movies, but the guy can frame a shot.

The movie is just so damn boring and not a terribly interesting concept, nor very scary or gory. It's done well visually but fails to some degree in story, thrills and characters.

It really loses a couple points just because it drags so much. It more or less suffers from the same problems as Wolfen.

4.8/10

Also, the talk about the Psycho series reminded me of something...

Has anyone seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2?

That has to be the most unworthy first sequel to anything that I have ever seen, with the possible exception of Highlander 2.

The Lords of Salem (2013).

Disappointing, even with relatively low expectations going into a Rob Zombie movie.

Failed completely at being scary. Mostly failed at being gory. Failed entirely at establishing a plot or characters. Zombie even managed to get a relatively bad performance out of Bruce Davison.

Sherrie Moon Zombie isn't a terrible actress, but she isn't good either, and has no on-screen charisma. She played the least engaging protagonist I have seen in a long time.

Zombie seems to have a thing for digging up actresses from decades gone by and getting them to disrobe or be haggard props. It was cool to see Joanna Lumley as the old, poised aunt in the Wolf of Wall Street. There was nothing really cool about seeing Judy Geeson (To Sir with Love) here as an old foul-mouthed hag, talking about fucking heads with dirty cocks. And Meg Foster was simply grotesque as a naked, sagging witch.

I really don't know what Zombie is trying to do. He seems to come up with a handful of creepy images that he wants to have in a movie, and then shits out a script just barely able to get from one of these images to the next.

He can frame a decent shot, but that's about it. He's only managed to tell a coherent story a couple times, and those were several years ago now.

3.5 / 10.

I fucking love TCM2. If you take it seriously, you're gonna have a bad time.

Hooper knew he would never top what he did with the first movie so he just went wild with it. Love me some Choptop and Dennis Hopper is amazing.

RIP

I saw this vid a few weeks ago and honestly, i felt disappointed. Hes been lazy with everything hes put up since before he became a family man. So ya know what? He can disappear into the sheep and leave the creativity to the wolves.

His avgn vids are too much. He believes that he needs to do MORE and make his vids BIGGER but i loved his first vids that have the simplicity of just reviewing a shitty game...and a game we all KNOW. I have no nostalgia for shitty games ive never played.

His james and mike play mondays are better cuz its usually games i know of and the frustration is something i can emphasize with, especially when he shows the camera that he pressed a button but the game didnt respond. Oh and anyone ever notice hes terrible at games? He couldnt finish metroid?! Mike has the common sense to accomplish most game goals and bootsy, well, hes a man with a shit ton of patience.

I also like the vids when mike and the fat kid talk about games. Ive purchased a few games i never wouldve heard about had i not watched them.

James amd his other projects...board james? God dammit, again, doing too much. I dont need a story dammit, i clicked on the vid because i recognized the board game. Thats it. Focus.

Sad part is, i dont know anyone else that does the monster madness. For vid game shit u got pat the nes punk and jon tron, whom is great at going overboard. Perhaps he can pass the torch to Mike but i dont know if he cares for horror as much.

Bottom line, james wouldnt be so worn out if he didnt blow his load on the other shit. But if he just cant control himself, he can go away.

Mike is a loudmouth can. I hope he never goes near Monster Madness.

Damn, you too? He reviewed a Sesame Street movie years ago and I found it absolutely fucking hilarious.

Beyond that, I think hes fine. He doesnt say much I dont disagree with, though I dont care for his hard on for Ducktales.

Sorry if I posted it in the wrong section but it is horror and a lot of Sherdoggers may not know about it...

I guess all I can say is that I am glad you got enjoyment out of it.

Imagine if Francis Ford Coppola had taken that "I'll never top the last one" approach into The Godfather II.

Usually wacky self-parody doesn't come around until the 5th or 6th sequel, when the franchise is in the hands of its 3rd or 4th director. Hooper just skipped all the steps and went right into Freddy vs Jason / Dracula: Dead and Loving It territory.

10 Cloverfield Lane 8.5/10

Cloverfield-1200x630-e1457655698734.jpg

When Cloverfield came out, I saw it with as much anticipation as the next person. Then, I never saw it again. When this was announced, I thought it was going along with an idea I heard when Cloverfield came and went. The idea was that other movies would come out with different areas of the city that was attacked and wed see how others cope with the giant monster roaming thru the city. Gladly, this movie has ZERO connection with the former with the same name.

Coming off from criticizing Cinemassacres James's videos being too big, too much, too everything, I find myself liking movies on smaller scales. Moon, Castway, Alien, The Thing, Misery these movies have minimal actors with primarily one set. What you have left is acting. In this, you have 3 actors stuck in a bunker surviving an alleged holocaust type of "attack." John Goodman plays a Kathy Bates type of character, only with him, you dont know if hes insane, emotionally destroyed, or scared to shit. Our lead actress doesnt know if hes telling the truth about the atmosphere on the surface and beneath Goodmans emotional surface. The environment forces the characters to interact and we get to have some development, otherwise, not found in louder movies.

At first, I did not care to seek this movie out as it reminded me of a possible The Village outcome. However, in the other thread that was filled with spoilers, it was implored that this movie is NOT like the village (yes I deliberately will not bold it twice). Its not as boring and does have a payout. Ive read some people didnt like the ending and I scratch my head as to why that is..

I hope that movie called The Woods will be awesome when it comes out. I love horror movies.

I watched Indigenous on Netflix. It was loosely based on the missing persons case of the hikers by the waterfall in South America. Movie was so shitty it wasn't even funny. The creature was a chupacabra knock off that was laughably bad looking. Movie was so uninteresting I barely could finish watching.

Had to follow it with 10 Cloverfield Lane, which was surprisingly well done and well acted.

Its multiplayer game. NO THANKS.

You have to have to have to have a single player game in place FIRST and multiplayer second, period.

Not ripping your quote, I actually saw this game on the steam summer sale and remembered your post so I tuned in, saw it was MP, checked out. Then I read the reviews from those that like multiplayer and apparently its got severe connectivity issues. Annnnnnd if you cant connect then whatever money you spent is now wasted cuz theres no single player game to play until the wrinkles iron out.

See?
