Hilarious KO - Peden v Campbell

Goddam that smacking sound when Peden connects is sick. And Campbell lost by TKO when they fought again too. I've been searching for them everywhere but these fights are really hard to find.

I loved District 9, and no one in the theater thought it was a bad movie, everyone loved it. It was hilarious and sad all at the same time, easily the best movie of 2009 in my opinion. That one part where the black dude got his head blown up it was so unexpected some guy at the top of the theater got scared and everyone else was like super quiet because we were like 'what woah" and this guy is freaking out "OOOH GODDAMN WHAT THE FUCK OOOOOH SHIT HE GOT FUCKING OWNED OH MY GOD" then he realized no one else was saying anything. Good times, good times.

inb4 cool story chap

I saw District 9 and it is awesome. A little slow in the beginning, but the allegorical aim, plot development, and special effects were decent. Surprised such a new auteur was able to get a budget to do that movie. The special effects = Top notch

Did you honestly refer to Peter Jackson as an Amateur?

It was directed and written by Neill Blomkamp and this is his first big feature film.

Blomkamp got that money because Jackson liked his work on Alive in Joburg (a short version which D9 is based on).

Yeah but you referenced budgeting. In Film, you can go to certain Production houses, tell them Peter Jackson is your neighbor and thinks your screenplay is cool, and you'll get money.

His presence is exactly how a budget was garnered. That's what Producers do.

The movie didn't even cost that much to make. Hell, Peter Jackson doesn't have to do work to get the finance. He can pull 30 million out of his ass. That's how much the movie cost.

Exactly, so how is there confusion as to where the money came from?

Jackson pulled it out of his ass, that's where. I bet the Director's name wasn't mentioned once in the pitch.

Actually, that was NZ dollars. It cost 21 million to make District 9.

Yes, correction. Peter Jackson pulled 21 million US dollars out of his ass to make this movie. It goes to show you how flawed the US film industry is. The special effects in this movie look like it came from 100 million dollar budget.

Yeah, big budgeting is pretty ridiculous. This is nickel-and-dime shit. Word of warning, if you're a business owner and you get solicited to invest in a small Film, understand that unless it's an anomaly like Blair Witch, what they're asking you is if you'll give up $10 g's to have your business's name on something, and you're never going to see that money again. It's not bad advertising, but they're going to tell you you're going to make a fortune, and they're going to drop names if they can, half of whom don't have any idea the script exists.

A lot of the special effects these days look corny to me... I still prefer the puppets like in star wars :)

A touch of the CG can be nice... but too much just doesn't look right to me.

It doesn't look right to anyone, half the time it doesn't even look right to the animators who create it.

Production budget was about $30-40million.
I doubt Blomkamp had clout to get him that much.
But still, there's been alot of advertising for the film. Production costs don't include advertisment costs.

They said they made it 30 Million NZ (Roughly 20-21 Million US). If you add the advertising and promotion, I say close to 40 US (They were very smart about it. I am geeky admittedly and they hit a lot of tech websites and more web based promotions. Not so much television based. It couldn't have cost that much). That really ain't shit. G.I. fucking JOE cost 175 million to make and God knows how much they put into marketing the bitch. The movie dropped off 68% after the first week. Don't even know if they will make their money back. District 9 had a great opening day and will probably recuperate everything they invested this weekend. That's a smart investment. You don't need 9 figure budgets to make 9 figure ticket sales. Hollywood burns too much money on stupid CGI action flicks. I pretty much given up searching for quality films from Hollywood. Most of the good stuff is elsewhere.... In Eastern European countries and asian markets like Korea.

D9 was a great, deep sci-fi movie that reminded me of Blade Runner at times. The liberal undertones are easy to pick out, but it's very balanced if you give things more thought. It's holistic, not heavy handed.

Won't win an Oscar, not even for special effects, but it will be remembered.
