Cool. Didn’t know Calgary has Polar Bears.

Been charged a few times but have never felt in danger in all the years of being around wild bears.

I guess your comfort comes from years of exposure and experience
Your average person would be very uncomfortable being charged or even with a close encounter...

Getting arrested for inappropriate behaviour around minors at Build A Bear doesn’t count.

Yeah I consider myself lucky being able to spend so much time around them, a lot more than most people. It helps to when to see the same bears daily for a month or more they get really chill around you.

You're not wrong, that's often the case.

I have full trust in these dogs though. In the few grizzly encounters I've had on trails with them, I just kept the dogs close and waited it out or backtracked.

I've only ever run into one aggressive bear while hiking though, and it was a black bear. The dogs certainly deterred it. They've warned me of a couple cougars I hadn't picked up on too.

I like having them with me as early detection system, and I know that if I were to be charged, my dogs would do everything they could to protect me (guardian breeds).

That said, a lot of people just let their pups roam around through the trees while they hike, potentially scaring a bear, then running back to you with a charging bear in persuit. Not good.

Ya, when I see people hiking with toy breeds I just shake my head and smirk. They have no clue. If you have two or 3 capable dogs who can and will back you up, then you may be ok. I'd just be worried about the dogs.

Pork is no different outside of bacon. Meat is great but the fat tastes like shit.

This might be the craziest food-related post I've ever seen.

Pork fat is so good, it's sold on its own-

And if it wasn't so damn unhealthy, it'd probably be THE most popular fat out there. Just about everything tastes better with lard.

Granted these are black bears so they’re a lot more docile but I just love the vibe of the video that the bear family comes and says good morning to him every day

man thats pretty crazy even for me. This is a grizzly cub from last year way up by the arctic circle, I think it was my last night so it was cool.

We get black bears ambling around in North Vancouver every year. Somebody more experienced can correct me but Black Bears, I think, are opportunistic predatory assholes.

Man, what we were taught is, if you see a black bear...........making yourself look big by flaring up, talk loud and back away.

If you see a brown bear or a grizzly, don’t look it in the eye, talk calmly n softly, don’t look threatening and back away........slowly.

If you see just a grizzly / brown bear cub(s) and no mother bear...............kiss your ass goodbye because that means the mother's behind you.
