40 attacks per year worldwide and 11 per year in North America. 14 percent are fatal
This is a fairly regular occurrence for me, filmed on my phone.
I'm a big hiking fan and will go every chance I get, especially cause I work in the city and it adds some much needed peace of mind.
So just this past weekend I was off on a hike with a friend about a couple hours north of where I live. Now in the mountains near my home we have plenty of black bears and your occasional mountain lions, which can fuck you up, but nothing like the creature we experienced that day.
We were about an hour into a hike I've done before, and nearly got lost doing lol, when off far in the distance we seen what looked like a grizzly. By the time we could do anything it disappeared over the horizon and was gone, but we kinda freaked and doubled back. I had spray and a nice big machete, but I wasn't about to take any chances.
I mean, it could have been a very large brown colored black bear, but grizzlies have been sighted in those areas before and it sent a chill down both of our spines.
Damn you revenant. Just like Jaws did when I was a kid in the water, I can't go hiking in certain areas without thinking a massive grizzly will launch out and start munching down on me.
Anyone else have an experience with these guys...

I make a standard honey garlic sausage or hot flavored.
If im making grounds for burger, i chop in 1lb of bacon per 10lbs of bear.
Can bbq or fry in coconut oil.
If you are stewing etc, i recommend trimming as much fat off the bear when you are gutting and quartering before hanging in cheese cloth.
Bears are omnivores and as such their fat tastes like shit. Much like a pig, pork chop fat isnt very tasty, but bacon is because its been smoked. By removing the fat and using another fat of choice for cooking, you wont find it anywhere near the same.
If you are roasting it, trim visible fat and roast on a tray so the drippings fall to the bottom.
Can use duck fat or beef fat to baste.
I find frying grounds jn coconut oil and making a peach mango salsa stuffed pepper with cheese to be grand.
how effective is that bear spray stuff?
Seems like you’re trying to mask the taste of bear as much as you can. You put a pound of bacon in 20 lbs of shit, even that will probably taste good.
If you don’t like the taste of the meat, why have it ?
Unless you get off on the fact that it’s bear you’re eating.
Because for the most part they aren't interested in killing humans.
I'm not going to lie I kind of want to go camping and stuff where they exist.. I mean not deep into their specific territory but areas they exist in like British Colombia. There's a part of me that wants to know exactly how to be prepared like the glock 20 with hallowed points and just kind of have the thrill of that encounter hovering over me. What a fucking high man!

The meat is great.
The fat is shit.
Pork is no different outside of bacon. Meat is great but the fat tastes like shit.
Hike with a buddy who's slower than you.
Don't think climbing a tree will save you either. Years ago I was doing a job in Canmore and when I showed up on Monday the site was shut down. Apparently the stone masons wife was killed by a young griz when she tried to escape by climbing a tree on Silvertip Gold Course. Crazy shit.
She was out jogging on a golf course with two friends. They gtfot while she climbed the tree. He'll, I've seen a grizzly with her two cubs within Calgary city limits. She must’ve been on her period.
Drives bears crazy. Sherdoggers too.
Ok. I get that. Never had bear myself. Or the inclination.
Elk and moose though was interesting.
And you don’t like pork fat ???
Love that shit. Not too much though. Makes my shit twizzlers go slipping out my turd canon.
I like to put that work in the "office". A few manly grunts, braced muscles rippling. Can’t stand things coming easy to me .......or leaving, in this case.
Btw where in Canada ?

Well, I guess that ol adage about taking a slow friend with you is true.
And I’ve seen some of your Calgary women. Easy mistake. But I figured out they weren’t bears because bears ain’t that ugly.
I grew up hunting around sudbury area. So ontario.
Moose and elk is delicious.
