Actually I often counter that pass okay (you see me counter it shortly before then). You have to grab the ankle and put your foot on the hip to counter it really well. I just screwed it up that time (it looks like I was trying to force a DLR guard instead of blocking), and he did a good job of jerking his knee over.
You can also see me trying earlier for the DLR guard as a counter to him trying the pass. But he kept really tight, so I couldn't pull it. Sad, otherwise we would've seen some nice sweeping action.
Lesson learned -- just block the cross knee pass when the DLR guard isn't open. Don't force it.
Yeah, I just watched it again. Definitely a mistake on my part that gave him the pass. His knee comes up, my hand flicks out and I touch his ankle, and then inexplicably go back to grabbing his arm instead of holding onto the ankle.
I see so much to improve (why couldn't I finish that kimura? Why does my guillotine suck? Why couldn't I get my half butterfly guard to work?), it makes me sad, but at least I don't have to worry about plateauing. I have years to work on all these holes in my game.
