Here's my pan am videos

don't feel bad. your opponent had a physical advantage on you, being more compact and in better shape. what you gotta do is get more fit and learn to use the lankiness. I see trangles and omoplatas in your future.

I am the kid in the first video, this was my first blue belt match, I have been training for 16 months. when i gave my coach the thumbs up I wasnt trying to be cocky, he was giving me the signal to play rubber guard which really isnt my game, and I gave him the thumbs up like I was saying ok. Sorry if you took that the wrong way. When I was giving you the hand motion I wanted you to start coming at me so I could drop down for a double, even though when you did I just backed up, haha.

Im really not a cocky guy, and didnt meen anything with the hand jestures. Looking back on the match I should have opened up my gaurd more and switched to De la Riva gaurd when you were using combat base. You were controling my closed gaurd. your pressure is pretty intense man, it is better then other blue belt I faced in no-gi that was 20lbs heavier, and it was just good stuff.

If you could give me some advice on how to improve and what I should work on I would appreciate it alot. I had a fun time in our match. Sorry about the hand jestures.

Okay, here is my first fight. Should take a bit for it to come up, since I just uploaded it.

Good job at the end; although, I can't figure out what throw you used (harai, tai otoshi, uchi mata?) because of the stupid person in the way LOL.

I know, it sucked that the most dramatic point was ruined by the camera. Nice to win from behind in the last 30 seconds tho.

It was a harai type throw, I think it's called in judo. The one that is kind of like an uchimata except that your leg is outside his leg and kind of trips him, like an outer reap.

My second opponent came out bent over and practically sitting on his butt (you can see him briefly at the end of the youtube clip). I couldn't figure out why, then afterwards I guessed his team probably saw my first match and mistakenly thought I was a judoka, so he had to protect against the throw. He sat so far back from me, it ruined my tomoe nage attempt, and I ended up just pulling him in my guard. Which he eventually passed, got put back to my guard, and then passed again, winning the match.

I've decided to try to take some judo classes. It's fun, VERY handy at tournaments, and I bet my build would be good for it. Even a really poor judoka would have been able to throw many of the bjj guys I saw on their ass. Judo and a half guard game are the things I need to work on most now.

i personally didn't take it as cockyness, don't worry... i didn't notice the thumbs up till i watched the vid

by the way nathan, did you hear me say "shit" when you locked the triangle?

what is combat base? im not familiar with the eddie bravo terminology.

oh and advice, you should have moved my arm across during the triangle. you were too busy locking your legs and not worrying about bringing my head down or moving my arm

Combat base isn't Eddie Bravo terminology AFAIK. It is basically when you sit with one knee pointed upward. See 1:05 into your first match (that's a VERY NICE transition you did there to break his guard, btw).

thats funny, I didnt hear you say shit. As soon as I got the triangle you had the hand in, and your head was almost out, I cant remeber exactly but i just didnt think I was going to finish it.

Combat Base isnt eddie's terminology, I dont really follow eddies game as you can probley tell with my shitty attempt at rubber gaurd. It was when you had your knee in and you were controlling my posrture and my hips. We call that combat base at my school, but its called many things. I play alot of opened gaurd and need to practice my closed gaurd more.

Do you have any advice for my closed guard. you shut it down.

yeah i tried a diagonal knee penetration pass right there at 1:05...

Lol you have the same situation as me ... in practice I never play closed or half guard, always open guard, but in tournaments you absolutely need a strong closed and half guard game.

Exciting match kid dynamite and jiu jitsu king ... you put on some nice BJJ there.

Nice match guys. Jiujitsking, you didn't come off as cocky at all to me. It was clear your were signaling back to your coach per his instructions with the thumbs up.

The little "come hither" thing with your hand was kinda' funny though.

Nice matches. I'll post mine as soon as I upload them to youtube.

Kid dynamite, yeah, I could see you had a strength disadvantage in your second match. He gave you a lot of trouble by staying strong and agressive. I also faced the same problem you did in my second match, facing a guy who had a bye first round.

Someone gave you some advice earlier about learning to use your height and reach to your advantage. Take it, definitely. I've seen some great wrestlers who had found ways to use their lankyness to their advantage. Unfortunately I don't think I'm experienced enough in jiu jitsu to give you too much advice in that area. It seems like you could do well with kimuras, omoplatas, and some gi chokes given your ability to reach up and around people in your guard.

Zankou, which fighter were you? (sorry if I missed an "I'm the ---- guy comment")

I'm the white guy playing guard. White guy, white gi.
