The Bible says "A tree is known by its fruit."

Forget rhetoric. Forget posturing and playing to the base.

Only one question really matters: "What did they do when they had power?" For legislators, this means what major piece of legislation did they pass when they had a clear shot and "obstruction" wasn't a valid excuse.

The last time Dems had full control of the national government was 2008-2010. What did they do?
  • Attempt to spread healthcare coverage to all Americans
The last time the Repubs had full control is current: 2016-2018? What have they done?
  • Pass a tax cut for billionaires and corporations
To me, this is a nutshell argument.

Someone tell me why I should see it differently.

Forcing health care on people that can’t afford it and then fining them because they can’t afford it isn’t all that altruist.

If they're a low income earner they won't have to pay much, if at all, under the ACA (depends on income level).

Totally thread worthy...
LOL! Someone makes a thread about policy differences by comparing the biggest bills passed by the two major parties and it's not thread worthy?

Shit, I sometimes forget that the only thing that matters to Trumpsters is triggering the libs. Policy is like, so boring, man.

Yeah, and the people just over the level pay for the people just under the level. Some of the biggest bullshit ever!

100% correct. If it isn't mudslinging then Trumpers could care less. Like I have said before, they finally got someone like them into the oval office.

Also the OP is 100% correct.

Welcome to how insurance works 101

Some people pay for others and when it is your turn to use it others pay for you

I don't think Obamacare was the ideal way to pursue expanding healthcare; we should have gone single payer. I hope we still will.

But expanding healthcare coverage to all Americans is the right goal.

Totally thread worthy...
There's a lot of BS in politics and political discussions.

If you hope to judge the true intents and values of the parties, you have to cut through the lip service and make an "apples to apples" comparison.

This is my best idea for how to do that. If you have a superior idea, please let me know.

Isn’t there already a thread that is basically this topic?

It seems like you wanted attention for your post.

Oh and you’re wrong. Trumps done more in under two years than Obama’s two term combined.

Which personality are you today bob? The Obama lover or the Obama hater?

You seem to relate to Trump a lot more that's for sure lol
Grab em by the...

You mean the piece of socialist shit healthcare bill that fucked the middle class in the ass with no spit, so that Obama could pander to his base of worthless welfare whores by giving them free shit?

Yeah you can fuck right off with that horse shit.
My fucking premiums nearly tripled because of that cocksucker.

Dude, stop with the partisan crap for a second and try to stay on topic.

The major domestic policy achievement for Trump is tax cuts. TS is arguing (correctly IMO) that Obama's signature domestic policy, the ACA, has done far more to help regular people than tax cuts. He asked you to leave rhetoric out and just compare policy to which you hack up the joint by saying it's not thread worthy than this gem of a post.

If policy is above your head it's ok, but maybe just stick to other thread topics. If you want to participate feel free to argue why tax cuts are doing more for people than the ACA is, but leave the fox news level bullshit out.

Compared to the tax law, which can be easily shown as self-serving, how is the ACA not altruistic? Even if you want to argue that it doesn't work, it's clearly not designed to line anyone's pockets.

Exactly.

I think @luckyshot is 100% correct here. When one major party controlled government their policy goal was to expand healthcare to millions who didn't previously have it and to stabilize the system. People can feel free to argue whether it was a good bill or not (it's obvious to me it's a major improvement). The goals of the ACA were clear and noble, which is why the right has lost their minds over it.

Republicans took the opportunity to redistribute wealth upwards and to ensure heirs of large fortunes pay less taxes. Noble policy goal? Nope.

The difference in the major policy achievements is gigantic and the partisans in the WR can't bring themselves to even acknowledge the very obvious differences here. Of course if they did it would lead them to abandon the Republican party.

Rising premiums trend has little to do with Obamacare...

...It is a major reason why we need single payer, though:
