There are plenty of refs better than Herb Dean. Jason Herzog and Marc Goddard right off the top of my head. Both have made mistakes, but neither has anything like Herb's highlight reel.

Herb Dean used to be regarded as the best ref with Cecil People's being the worst.

He might not be the worst ref, but he's probably the worst ref allowed to handle major fights.

He also shouldn't be allowed to referee WMMA full stop.

An awful lot of his way too early stoppages are with the women, he seems to have some issue with women fighting and stops it as quick as he can.

Goddard is great with the girls, his refereeing of Joanna v Penne was faultless. Allowed Jessica to get beat up just enough, gave her repeated chances to fight back and then stopped it at just the right time.

Hands up in mount for that length of time is not intelligent defense. The blood is whatever, but the way Weidman stumbled to his corner after tells you everything you need to know on it being a bsd stoppage.

yes, 30 fights because he's literally reffing hundreds of them. Jason Herzog and Goddard don't have the amount of fights Herb refs. let them ref as many as Herb does and THEN we can see who is the best. how many times has Goddard and Herzog been put in positions that Herb has where it is difficult to tell when to stop it? i say that because the guy's first example is Weidman vs Rockhold which is a title fight. if you stop it, people will complain about stopping it, if you don't, people will complain about that.

you cannot win when put in Herb's position.
